Bloody dandelions

Bloody Dandelions every year I manage to keep the dandelion numbers down on my grass.
But now they have started growing in the bloody trees

Let them grow - flower and seed ! Great for wildlife

They really are great for seeds for finches, flowers good for insects, insects good for game, dont kill them, just enjoy them, theyre only here for about 3 weeks.

I must confess that this year I've sprayed the "lawn" off with a broadleaf herbicide. The moss & weeds had taken over. I feel some remorse, it's only the second time in twenty years that I've resorted to it.
We have two colonies of Buff-tailed bumblebees in bird boxes again this year.

Pretty sure the bees in the boxes will be white tailed tree bees.
Wont be long before i get loads of calls about them.
They love old blue tit nests, pretty harmless.
If you are getting alotmof moss the soil ph is off try liming it this autumn

It would be a good thing if people were to only mow half of their lawn each year, particularly in urban areas.
And then swap over and do just the other half next year.
You could still mow some pathways through the uncut half, to make it a pleasant place to wander, and if you've got young kids they'll really appreciate having a jungly bit in the garden. As will lots of urban wildlife.

Here is the solution to your problem. It's essentially wild rocket with a massive umami punch, it's weird, you start eating it and you just crave more until you run out. It must contain a natural form of MSG or something.

Don't be harsh on them. Within a few years we will be cultivating them for latex production. Your next pair of knobblies may be down to your alpine plant

The moss I've used a solution of iron sulphate and the lawn rake to tackle it in localised patches.
Yes, I'm not worried about the bees, happy to see them arrive each year. I've dozens of boxes in the garden, I make them from the scraps of board from the workshop. I can't bring myself to put them on the woodburner when they can be made into something useful. I make dozens for the village green, they get a few quid for them, and it helps with maintenance costs.

What type of weed & feed do you use .
I have been looking for something to apply with a knapsack sprayer. My neighbour has a firm come in to do his, and I missed my opportunity to ask their advice a month or so ago.

Westland all in one Weed and feed.
Persistent weeds Verdone lawn weed killer which is spray applied. Not a huge lawn 15 x10 m.

Unfortunately the OH has 5 - yes five - bird feeders around the garden.

But if I can keep knocking out the breeders then possibly each other.

We live on the edge of a Red Squirrel (RS) conservation area yet it still took a few years of constant reminders that grey squirrel culling is a necessity for the RS to have any chance of survival.

Change what she is feeding, almost all the rat jobs i get because of feeders are seed mixes
The little brown jobs dont want the wheat so chuck it out, change to single variety seed in each feeder.
The product will cost more but you wont be feeding rats.
Sunflower hearts, millet, peanuts, cut maize.
Start with small bags see what they like.
Also if poss position the feeders in the open not over a shrub.

So strange how different areas have the same animals but with different diets - ours eat lots of wheat up here
