Boots or Wellies?

mainly boots, harkila and others. but when its constantly wet like now and they never dry as im out twice a day wellies tight neoprene. Never gaiters unless in heather then saddlecloth.
so many stalk in hiking gaiters and they are quite frankly awful.

Le Cheameu are the way to go, tight fitting with a choice of ankle & calf measurements to provide a tight fit & give better support.

I bought a pair of gaiters in the US. Camo fleece on the outside (quiet) silver waterproof fabric on the inside. I can wade thru a stream above my high boots and stay dry as the gaiters stop the water getting in over the top of boots. A great/must buy if in the US, I have not seen them in the UK.

Boots or wellies depending on the weather.
I have done most of my stalking in a cheap pair of Dunlop wellies because my main ground is all marshland and bog and I got a bit tired of walking around in wet socks.

I wouldnt go hiking in the hills in a pair of Welles, nor would i go stalking in a pair of Wellies.....the hills I stalk in require proper walking boots. Sometimes the stalk is tantamount to mountain climbing.

Wellies are much better and provide plenty of support and grip. I've started using short Hunter Balmorals and they're awesome in all weathers.

I've yet to fall into one of these bogs J-S tells me to avoid, he reckons if I fell in never see to see me again. He's told me few stories were a few have fallen in.

Picture below of my wellies in 1961 with the second Red-deer of my life.
In later years I had a paying guest out on the mountains who was wearing a brand new pair of Meindels which crippled him.
After a successful outing he asked me if I would take the boots in lieu of a tip if they fitted me.
A perfect fit and after slowly tuning them in I used them for many years.

For our rough stony mountains boots are better.

Just wondered how many of you out there stalk in wellies as opposed to boots?

Was out with a friend stalking last week & he was surprised to see that i do all my stalking in a pair of tight fitting le chameu wellies, be it on the hill, woods, fields etc.

I get the argument for a pair of loose fitting wellies not providing enough ankle support, but ive just never found wellies a problem even in the toughest terrain.

Whats your thoughts?

i mainly do woodland stalking, but last time i went i forgot to pack my boots and wore wellies for 3 days never again, but of cause depends on ground conditions but always take both(if i remember) so boots for me
