Border Terriers

We have a border and its nut's :cuckoo: it wants to kill everything my mrs treats it like a baby and he acts like one, but he's real Jekel and hyde character for sure.
If he sees a carcass he goes into a demented whine ! and it you give him a head to chew on well that's another story im sure he would find a deer but I have never used him.

Exactly like mine...mrs treats him like a baby and he loves it but as soon as he sees a gunslip or fishing rod he knows he's coming out with me and he "mans up"! I think he will be better a deer dog than my loopy 18month old cocker though!

He is brilliant at finding pricked pheasants where the spaniels dare not go, only problem is he finds them, dispatches them, plucks them and then tries to eat then lol! I am going to try him on the grouse moor this year as he will flush and sit to shot (unlike my loopy cocker (yet)) and he has incredible endurance so can work the moor all day. As long as Mr Charlie doesn't appear out of the heather it should work well...

Oscar is epileptic which is not nice to see ( I blame the kennel club and their silly ideas but that is a whole different discussion) but he has been on Epiphen since Oct 2012 and has only had one very very minor fit (rather than about twice a month for up to 2 hours - which made me seriously consider shooting him myself when he was in agony for 2 hours as he is completely conscious when he fits :( )

Sorry to hear about the epilepsy, its a worry with borders mine is 3 years old and hasn't had a problem yet when did yours start ?
I bought him as a pup from a pest controller who breeds and works the line regularly on foxes, cracking terriers he told me he would be slow to start which was right and now he is a demon .
Never had him to a fox but the way he is with cats I wouldn't thing there would be a problem .DF

He had his first fit when he was about 1, he is 3 now. I faffed about for months trying different diets, gluten free, low protein, barf etc etc and every time I thought I had cracked it he would have another fit. Finally put him on the anti epileptics Oct 2012 which in in hindsight I should have pushed for earlier but since then he has only had one very minor one and I don't worry about him so much.

He is 5 generation pedigree and I saw both parents so thought I had been as careful as I could be...I will have another one when the unthinkable happens (hopefully a long way away yet) but I will do my best to find out the genetics and history, but then can never be sure.

I haven't intentionally put him to a fox as I am too worried he will get his ass kicked by a badger, luckily he doesn't go to ground anyway. He has encountered a fox cub unintentionally.

Mine is very well behaved (for a terrier) good recall and will sit patiently in the hide when pigeon shooting, he won't retrieve but will find dead game birds and rabbits.

My son in law has 3 Borders and they like to chase kill and eat what they catch, mainly Rabbits.,but are fearless and they have caught Foxes in open fields.
