Brand of rifle to look into

Hi , I'm just wondering on peoples opinion.

Looking to purchase a 30-06

Wondering what peoples opinions are on rifle brands.

I love Sako but they are hard to find and expensive.

Been recommended Sauer , Tikka

Does anyone else have a brand that's worth looking into? Not interested in wooden stocked rifles.

I’ve recently bought a Sauer 202. The ‘smith that built one of my other rifles has a couple as his personal rifles.
Says something when he could build himself anything.
I like the stock it has a slight cast and everything about the rifle just works. As they have been replaced by the 404 there seems to be more around for sale.
The other advantage for me is I can get another barrel, even a custom one without loosing my rifle for however long the waiting time happens to be. There’s a good choice of cartridges along with plenty of scope for custom ones.

I have never bought a rifle that cost more than £700.
I spent my money on a good scope and good mounts.
All the rifles I have ever owned were perfectly good at reasonable stalking distances and none of the deer I have ever shot have said “oh that’s a nice rifle”.

The balance, feel and fit of the Sauer 404 (and 202) really works for me and I’d recommend you get hold of one. I don’t own one but the Schultz & Larsen Classic (the only S&L with a synthetic stock) is a thing of beauty too, and not ‘overly’ expensive. Enjoy the research.

Howa does what it says in the tin
My 308 & 243 both shoot under 1MOA with different loads and brands and if I drop it who give a dam i have thought about getting a top end rifle but to be fair the other top end shotgun i have hasn't been out of the cabinet for 2 years so what's the point unless its for bragging rights

Heym with a PSE stock.

Perfect.

Indeed - I test fired a second hand Heym bolt action in wooden stock a few months ago in 7x57 for the shop as a customer wanted an appraisal before purchase

It delivered consistent sub half moa groups with factory ammo

Excellent rifles and yes possibly almost perfect in a PSE

Almost.

But for a few annoying flaws. The whole trigger assembly set up seems predisposed to instability.
