I don’t dispute that. But as far as value for money goes you would be better off spending the same on a secondhand rifle of another make.Start off cheap too!
I started with a BSA CF2 as my first stalking rifle. For £150 I got a few years and over a thousand rounds before it died (and I believe moly coated bullets didn’t help).
I replaced it with a CZ that I sold to a lad on here, along with a moderator and some rings. The depreciation was very little over the time I had it, ok it did less work as I had a 222 for vermin. But that aside looked after it had plenty of life in it still.
There’s plenty of good name makes around, that like both of mine. Had fired very little in the way of rounds for their age. At sensible money, that you would get back selling it on when you upgrade.
A Savage is akin to buying a Skoda 30 years or so ago, did the job as well as most. But if you tried to sell it after a few years it cost you far more per year than other makes.
Personally I don’t like them they don’t feel nice in the hand or look that nice either. I admit that reviews etc have them as an accurate rifle. But when the local RFD doesn’t stock them but will only buy in with a hefty deposit, surely that tells you something.
