Hi there, i'm a 15 year old only really just starting to thinking to think about game-keeping as a career, looking for work experience in the Bristol area.
Does any one have any ideas where I might be able to do any work experience?

Thanks.

good to be looking to the future and i do wish you good luck ,the problem for you is health and safety .no farm will let you work until you are at least sixteen as they can not get insurance cover in place and farms and game keeping tend to be lone workers who do have more accident/injuries than office workers. keep looking /keep trying and get all the information about college courses you may be able to attend. game keeping is a way of life .its poorly paid, very long hours ,hard work but if its for you its the best job you will ever have .

What part of Bristol are you and what's your experience?

Plenty of beating around which could give you an "in"
I live in north west Bristol and in the way of gamekeeping I have no experience. but I've got a fair bit of experience in volunteering in nature i.e a week of work experience at westonbirt arboretum, 2 weeks woofing (staying and working on small-scale farms).

Where specifically could I do that beating that you mentioned?
Thanks!

North west........ Bradley stoke area?

Plenty of shoots in and around the area. I personally beat and pick up in the Cotswolds not far from j11a on the M5.

I used to beat near portishead and another near Stroud.

I imagine you need to rely on parents for transport?

Drop Patrick Pinker Game Supplies at Rangeworthy/Iron Acton a line. they could most probably hook you up with some local shoots

I did some work experience with a gamekeeper a while ago, it was easy for me because i already had contacts. If I was you try to contact local estates and ask around at local clay grounds or ask your local RFD if anyone knows gamekeepers which may be willing to take you on for a week or two.

Work experience is extremely useful in both getting into jobs, university courses and apprenticeships! Its also (from my experience) extremely fun!

Another overlooked aspect of work experience is gaining contacts which can offer references or even jobs.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that 👍
