BRNO ZKK 601 Zero Problem

Why not quit cleaning it? Some rifles don't respond well to cleaning and it doesn't sound like you have anything to lose. Clean rifles are not necessarily accurate rifles.~Muir

thtas a bloody good point , just go out and shoot it and choke it up a bit and then see how the acuracy goes !

i had a 243 that hated being clean and always took a good 20-30 rounds before is grouped again ! so i stopped cleaning it problem solved .

That is an interesting point - I hate cleaning guns anyway!

The previous owner has told me that Barnes XXX grouped well so I have some on order. Looks like they are £40 a box. Hope they are OK!!

ive loaded barnes tipped TSX in my 6.5x55 and normal TSX in my .270 and i have found , to get them to group your barrel has to be clean !

but with normal soft points just carry on shooting .

i hasten to add these are just my personal observations in my own rifles

Thanks for that.

My cousin suggested that as the rifle is quite old there may be excessive headspace now and that the bullet seating may be an issue - ie the fmj rounds are further forward than the others I tried which takes this up (I hope people understand what I am trying to say!!)

Head space is the dimension between the datum on the shoulder and the head (base) of the cartridge and has bugger all to do with bullet seating depth.

The only way to get excessive head space on a ZKK 601 would be to shoot shite loads of really ..................... really hot loaded ammo or with a chamber reamer. You ain't going to do it with normal use as they are just too well made. They might lack a bit of spit and polish in places but where it matters they're built very well indeed. In fact the head space dimensions of 7.62mm Nato and .308 Winchester are not the same. As for Barnes ................................ Hmmmm unless they have really altered them the Barnes bullets were well know for copper fouling. The Brno barrels are usually mirror smooth in the bore, or those that I have examined are and mine certainly was.

Oh Muir I suggested a good deep clean to remove what could possibly be years of accumulated copper fouling and if the previous owner had been shooting Barnes bullets through it that is a very strong possibility. With a clean barrel one can start from scratch and work up and find out how well the rifle behaves as it fouls.

I am having trouble zeroing my 1967 BRNO 308. I have tried Sako FMJ rounds with some success, and Sako softpoint 180gr with random results. Pretty much the rifle zeroed with the fmj, fired randomly within a 6 inch circle with the SP and when I went back to the fmj the results were nearly as bad as the SP. This was over the course of about 2 hours.

I will try the mount screws for tightness and other screws on the rifle as it has recently been screwcut for an ATech moderator which would involve I suppose stripping the rifle down.

If anyone has experience of this rifle could they suggest ammunition that is suitable as at £35 a box(ish) I cant afford to go through every brand!

Many thanks

Stephen

If scope is ok, & securley mounted.

1-crown the end ,( chamfer bore evenly).
2-try some ppu ammo, it shoild do 3" & less group @ 100yds with.
3- once its had a good clean , it should scope up after 5-10 rounds (then use pull thru after use....No oil !)

good luck. :)
