Bucks in the Rape.

A reply text from the Farmer "4 big Fallow Bucks in the rape" it must be a bit of a niggle as he has mentioned it every time I see him

It took me a while to find the 3 bedded down but he said 4 so where is he! Ah ha the other end of this field standing and feeding, not much contest with 3 pairs of eyes to 1 set. A tricky stalk across the rape to make some ground but a lot of the time he was facing away so when his head went down to feed I made some yards, he did turn a couple of times but I was half bent over when he did!!
The rape is starting to flower and growing tall so a neck shot was the plan as no window for a heart lung shot, if he moved off so be it as they have taken up camp in these fields for next time.
I take my "5th stick" which doubles up as a return marker as it has reflective tape on one end making the spot easy to find when coming back to collect, a single tree made a nice marker to walk and find him after he crumpled from the .270 round. I was about 2/3 yards off my line when his back end came into view:)

Quick bleed mark the spot and back for the cart, I was parked in the farm yard with a lad who rents a unit giving me a wave as I drove past as we have chatted also he was very interested in what I do, he is into his clay shooting and came over saying "I heard the shot did you get one"?
I am going to get my stuff ready you can come with me if you like to get it, well he turned off his workshop lights pulled the door shut saying "ready" lol
On the way over I explained what was going to happen which he was fine about, I left him by the headland then went to find the deer then called him over so just one way in and out through the rape.
A few duck me's when he came over which I half expected lol, "what do I have to do?" hold the torch please! dogged the deer on the cart and said off you go!
More duck me's so I joined in pulling the cart, the wheat was an easy pull as the ground runs down to the barn and the 400 yds was soon finished.
He did say he had to go but had a great time and you don't know if the gralloch was going to be his thing!
A hot 57kg so 55kg ish in the morning.

Nice result Tim, still the same MK1 extraction trolley I see, must have made that just right the first time around 👍

Tim glad to see the winch and cart coped with that big one again (both for under fifty quid )
There you go Bill, hard enough in the daylight but the trick is to get a good marker point and stick to it and walk in a straight line!
Yes they are big but wander off your line and you are stuffed.

Tim remember i have seen that stick in action.
Such a simple thing to make but so effective in the rape.
I am going to copy the idea as in the dark we all struggle to find every thing.
You are Essex answer to Jack Hargreaves (out of town ) for all you younger folks
