budget lightweight scope suggestions

I am looking for a lightweight varmint/treetop scope for a lightweight 222. First instinct is a Vector continental 44mm but before i order one i wanted to see if anyone else here has suggestions.

min magnification doesnt matter mutch, max should be at lesst 12x preferably more.

fine reticle, ffp with bdc of some type a plus but not required, bdc in moa or mil definitely desirable but also not absolute requirement.

low to bore and lightweight are a must.

optically as good as the budget allows but i wont be doing mutch low light shooting with this one so daytime clarity is more important than low light performance.

about 500-600 euro budget

Vector seems to fit but there are so many scopes out there nowadays....

Take a look at Burris scopes. I had one when I accidentally damaged my Swarovski and needed something affordable yet reliable to keep me going. I always thought they were excellent.

Or, if you're willing to spend a bit more, Hawke is undeniably superior in my opinion. I reckon they offer the best scopes for the money, and now, I use Hawke optics exclusively on all my rifles.

Burris Compact 4-12x32, Ballistic Plex looks like it might fit the bill actually.

I would defiantly say that Hawke will have the edge, but there won't be be anything wrong with the Burris. Also it's worth remembering that the Hawke will have a lifetime warranty!

wich hawke? seen tons hawke, nikkostirling and konus used in Finland, often for only 100 euro. I always wrote those brands off as just another chinese cheapo. If i know what to look out for i might catch a good deal

Have a look on their website. They have a pretty large range to choose from. They are defiantly not a 'Chinese cheapo'. They are extremely good value, most will have illuminated reticule, parallax adjustment, amazing clarity good zoom and most I think are available in both first and second focal planes.

That’s a very basic scope from them. I don’t really use lightweight scopes. I’m a huge fan of the Hawke Sidewinder range—all of my scopes are Sidewinders across different calibres. It really depends on what you’re looking for in a scope.

Since they come with a lifetime guarantee, I’ll be keeping my Hawke scopes indefinitely, moving them from rifle to rifle. I’ve got one that’s over 15 years old, and it still works as if it were brand new.

Personally, I’d steer clear of the Airmax series. As the name suggests, they’re designed for air rifles and don’t really suit centerfire rifles. Any Hawke scope paired with a quality set of rings should perform well.

Normally my setups are very heavy. But i got my hands on a sako vixen with a chopped down barrel and butchered stock for pocket change so i am going to mess around with it to see if i can get a light but capable little rifle for 20-200m small game rifle out of it with a short barrel to shoot something in the 35-45gr range with n110 or n120 powder. its something fun to work on that my daughter may like to play with as well.

maybe the vantage is too basic?

Have a look for a second hand shmidt & bender 10x42. Superb optics and perfectly good for foxes and vermin as far as a 222 or 223 will shoot them comfortably. With a lightish bullet thats shoots fast you can set zero for about 200 and it’s pretty much point and shoot out to such ranges so need to adjust scopes for range.

I think the Vantage might be a bit basic. A range of 200m is quite a distance, especially for small game. You’d likely be better off with something from the Sidewinder range, which offers excellent picture clarity and parallax adjustment, ensuring your reticule stays sharp even when shooting at distances as close as 20m.

The Sidewinder also features easily interchangeable ballistic turrets, allowing you to quickly dial in a range to match your shooting conditions, which sound quite varied. I’ve used the Sidewinder to take shots beyond 300m—it’s a fantastic scope and works brilliantly with NV add-ons as well.

bit too mutch in this case. i need a bit more close range functionality

To the original purchaser.

6x42 Swarovski Habicht 2nd hand are not much money, and very nice little scopes. They leave something like a Hawke standing, I have a Frontier on my air rifle and it is fine.

normally id jump on those but iam looking for a variable with extra magnification. If only to make extra sure i shoot the right bird.

I just ran across the delta titanium 4-16x42. Heard good things about the brand, only 330 euro tho, makes me suspicious

I like Delta Titaniums, I have two of the 2.5-15x56 and can't fault them for the money I paid 2nd hand, £385 for a never been out of the box jobbie off Scope Shack, and one off this site for £425.

I've got a couple of Athlon 2-12 x 42 FFP mil scopes, and really rate them for the money.

One was on my main deer rifle until replaced by a S&B 3-12x42 Klassik, but they're doing very good service on a .22 and a 6.5 SAUM used for a spare deer rifle.

Those look quote good a well. Thats the whole issue with this budget range isnt it. 1000 choises.

I am also looking at used scopes, tend to get more for the price that way. Athlons arent common scopes here.

but how would you guys rate the leupold vxII series? i found some Scandinavum ones in 2-7x33 and 3-9x40. Found a couple for 290-350 euro. Original Price seems to have been in the 600 range here. Older model sure but i never minded old but good.

I wouldn't buy a Leupold.
They used to be good, but 30 years of living on their reputation has left them with nothing special below their top lines. I'd especially not busy one if you are thinking of dialing.
