Bullets speed versus accuracy

Just been working on RS62 in the 243 and 75vmax
Had some interesting results
I was using H414 before and had good accuracy with 3342fps minimum up to 3521fps (not even max load) with no pressure signs. I couldn’t really choose between them all.
Now testing RS62 I’m only getting MOA at the lowest and anything over that the groups start to open. At the lowest load it’s running at 3190fps. Just strange how powders affect the accuracy in more than just a speed perspective. Primers and brass are all the same.
I’m hoping I didn’t just pull 3 shots and accidentally got the good group on the first lol.

Could it be you’re not getting a full powder burn? RS62 may be a bit slow if you’re shooting a 20” barrel. I use RS62 in a 26” 6mm creed with 108gr bullets.

“RS62 propellant was originally developed for 270 Win., but is also superb for .30-06 Spring. cartridges. In terms of vivacity, it approaches RS60 , but RS62 operates with significantly lower energy content and thus produces less barrel wear. A genuine alternative for shooters who are looking for a straightforward, honest, easy-to-use propellant powder for magnum cartridges in light and medium-weight applications.”

I would suggest RS62 is not a good choice for a shortish barrelled 243. I suggest looking at a powder burn rate chart and find something that is close to H414 which gives good results, or just stick with the H414.

How close to max load did you go to? if you went towards max load might the groups start to close up again?

This has reassured me that my velocity with a 20” 6mm creedmoor is not just my poor reloading but a poor powder selection. With the top load of 42.7gr RS62 and an 87gr v-max I only achieved 2700fps and should have been closer to 3000fps.

Although incredibly accurate it is a waste of a components when it should be shooting flatter. It is 6mm ARC velocity from 16” barrel.
