Just a wild guess, but could Brexit have something to do with increased difficulties in moving stuff (incl. ammo) around?
They had sierra TMK 69 grain in 223 showing as in stock when I ordered some a couple of weeks ago only to get the email saying they didn't actually have them and had no idea when they would be in stock. The website when I last check still showed them as available too.SIERRA .30 CALIBER/7.62MM (.308) 125 GR. SPT PRO-HUNTER 100 BULLET HEADS

Surely not!? We took back control of our borders so now we can get whatever we like or need with little to no hassle. Or at treat that's what the Brexiteers promised!Just a wild guess, but could Brexit have something to do with increased difficulties in moving stuff (incl. ammo) around?
Not quite the case. PPWs are issued in exceptional circumstances and only where a clear threat is known - in these circumstances they will never be “banned”. These are absolutely not related to pistols held for legitimate reasons i.e. as a member of a registered club and wishing to participate in pistol competitions. For simplicity think of c/f rifle ownership in the mainland as a member of a registered club then for NI add/substitute pistols - .22 up to 44 magnum - for competition only. That and of course the fact that we are much more law-abiding and good looking of course…..

Simple explanation ish - Great Britain (aka Britain) comprises England, Scotland and Wales and is “legislated“ for largely by Westminster, whereas the UK comprises Great Britain and NI - with some devolved powers devolved to NI incl. firearms so there is different legislation concerning firearms between GB and NI. After Dunblane Westminster kneejerked and banned all pistols in GB but NI did not choose to bring in such a ban. Vague recollection that Channel Islands and perhaps IOM are same as over here.Notwithstanding the fact that you're more law-abiding etc, that does't explaine why they were banned on the mainland but not in NI. I don't think we've ever had handguns as PPW on the mainland, but we had a thriving club shooting scene. I'm sure many of us over here would welcome being allowed to use handguns in a club, for competition use (think Police Pistol, Service Pistol, Practical Pistol, Postal Leagues etc.).![]()
I read a post on Reddit last week that said there had been 10 million new firearms owners (could have been just firearms though) purchased since Biden took over. The poster said assume for each firearm they bought 100 rounds to get started then you can see a sudden extra purchase of a billion rounds has a huge impact on supply.Hmmm. As per other threads, the US market is having an ammo shortage hiatus, by comparison the UK is a tiny market so it is pretty clear to me that we have a problem on our doorstep. As a result we might well have to forego our favourite powder/brass/bullet recipes and make do with whatever we can get a hold of. Reassuringly, substitutes may not give the 1/2inch groups we all aspire to but I have no doubt that they will kill anything we wish - at sensible ranges, if we do our bit. Not ideal but increasingly a fact of life. Hunker down chaps - it is what it is….

Yep I read it too. The figures beggar belief but lets you see how small the UK market is by comparison.I read a post on Reddit last week that said there had been 10 million new firearms owners (could have been just firearms though) purchased since Biden took over. No wonder our meagre purchasing power gets a low priority.

Think you can still own handgun in the Channel Islands and IOM also.Simple explanation ish - Great Britain (aka Britain) comprises England, Scotland and Wales and is “legislated“ for largely by Westminster, whereas the UK comprises Great Britain and NI - with some devolved powers devolved to NI incl. firearms so there is different legislation concerning firearms between GB and NI. As a slight aside the number of legally held pistols in NI (PPWs and Cub) was reportedly one of the bargaining chips between Mo Mowlam (SoS NI) and certain organisations which have since put their (illegal) guns “beyond use” - allegedly. Long story short - in NI we have a vibrant and thriving pistol club scene - shooting all the disciplines you mention and a few more besides. Indeed we regularly even have visits from GB shooters including police forces. Go figure….

Glad I filled my boots earlier in the year.

Yup - unless you are dedicated target shooter or a professional culler.Honest question: Is 600 bullets a lot for guys in the UK?

Spot on, but so many people on the bigger island firmly believe that ” the Irish problem” has nothing to do with them that I think you might be wasting your time.Hmmm. As per post no. 6. Too many people think that “Ireland” and “Northern Ireland“ are the same. For clarity - the first is not part of the UK and indeed reloading there is illegal so anything of that ilk will be seized; the second i.e. NI is an integral part of the UK and you can post anything to it at the same rate as Glasgow, Darlington or Dover with Royal Mail with the same implications. I have had soooo many deliveries from mainland RFDs and SD chaps and sent many parcels of brass and/or bullets to the rest of the UK without any issues so why is it an “issue” for some members? Just curious.
