Camo clothing

I have recently been looking at various camo gear and the old cell started thinking. Why don't we wear clothing with similar colouration to deer?
Greyish/brown in winter and more reddish in summer/autumn (roe speaking that is)
It amazes me how difficult animals are to see with this colouration (thinking charlie here too)

Any thoughts?

Yes, get to bed.

Up all night matey...I was expecting a picture of you in your santa suit summer stalking for some reason :)

I am aware of a tale where an old stalker tasked with taking a lady, I believe of foreign extraction, out one day, was surprised to see her appear attired in a rather battered mink coat. Being the consummate professional he said nothing and they got started. He stated that at one point he turned round and she had disappeared. The coat had done it's job and she blended into the background perfectly. Maybe it's not deer coloured Camo, maybe it's deer skin we should be wearing!!!

Thought you were going to say he turned around and all he could see was her white arse as she took a leak :D

In the past I have had similar thoughts to yours Limulus but mine were about copying the colour and distruptive pattern of my old GWP. That blighter with his liver and white coat (more of a grey colour really) just seemed to blend into the countryside. I even pondered the possability in my daydreams of developing and marketing a cammo pattern and calling it GWP. His sucessor who is solid liver much to my surprise does exactly the same in the woods and is impossible to see when it gets dark and will simply vanish in the back garden at night.

We had an idea to keep the deer skins and make a deer coat, it warm and the best camo you can get then it really hit home that we could be mistaken for a dear as well which is not good when you know you could have a set of cross hairs trained on your head...

We are lucky to be able to go afield without blaze orange
like in the States. As well as cammo there are lots of other factors.
such as sheen/ shine/ ir and uv glow. sillouettes, open country
winter woods, summer woods.night and day, movement, position standing prone

DPM and a few leaves has always been good
a good ghillie suit is good , that is till you
stand up in the open.

most important is the human upright shape recognisable at about 5 miles
then the human face recognisable at a mile.

humans are not able to smell so military coloured cammo is good
but even the best ghillie suit is no good upwind of a deer.
and have you ever looked at your coat in ir or uv light its amazing.

and a crow or a pheasant will always spot me even when a deer or fox misses seeing me

what about blaze orange? After all deer only see in black and white with maybe a little blue.

Quite common in France and the U.S., satisfies safety and has a cammo effect that seems to work on game. Some years ago Deerhunter used to make a stalking fleece both in green and another in very bright colours, something like an explosion in a paint factory. The colourful jacket didn't look out of place when going shopping for instance. I don't know if they still make such a thing. The green jackets sold with stalkers but the bright multi coloured ones didn't meet with shooters approval. It makes you wonder about who the cammmo is supposed to work on, people or game.

I would be far too worried that I would be accidentally shot by another Stalker taking me for a deer ;)

I have exactly the same with my 2 Weimaraner's at dawn and dusk they are impossible to see and just blend in to any surrounding - open field or woodland

We always managed to get closer to the deer when on horse back, so I was thinking of getting a old pantomine horse outfit, I thought we could go out as a pair, one shooting from the rear and the other from the front.

I have changed my tune about camo.

I have decided it is a complete waste of time. No matter how much the jokers at team wild try to shove it down our necks it does not make the slightest bit of difference.

Yesterday I was wearing a green coat a client had borrowed one of my camo coats and I watched the deer clock him as I lent against one side of the tree and he move into sight on the other side of the tree.

Natural furs make a lot more sense to me.
