Camping mattress

I’ve not done much camping over the past few years and all the camping and bivvying I’ve done in the past has all been with ultra light stuff like Thermarest. Just wondering if there’s any recommendations and experiences with current options - I’ll not be carrying it, it’ll be car camping but still want relatively compact. Not fussed if it’s self inflating, internal pump etc but does need to be reasonably thick for comfort and fit into a 2/3 man 4 season tent.

I'd go for a camp bed personally, rather than a mattress. Just getting that couple of inches off the ground makes a big difference to comfort and warmth.
I have a very simple canvas camp bed with a metal frame. Folds up fairly small.
Many times I've slept out under the stars on it, set up alongside my vehicle or under my highseat.

Alpkit duomo . Excellent value. 3-4inches thick. Decent material resistant to punctures
Has an inbuilt inflating pump thing
But get a flextail mini pump and save the faff of pumping like your mat needs CPR

Lidl did one self inflating recently cheap.

Light enough that my boy carried it 50kms on his D of E. 👍

Said he slept well. 😄

Ah it seems a perfectly sensible suggestion and I agree getting off the floor makes a big difference, but years of camping and bivvying (all be it not so recently) probably shape my preference to a more traditional mat type option. I will keep an open mind though.

Thanks - there an Alpkit store not too far away so might go and check them out.

I only know the hathersage shop. That has a giant repaired/reconditioned items section which can be good value if you happen to find what you want
(But sometimes they want as new prices for repaired gear which seems a bit off)

Naturehike and Thermarest make good mates over 100mm thick with insulating foil inside to up the R value and keeping the mat light and compact.

I've got the Naturehike R8 (I doubt it's actually that high of an R rating) but it is very comfy. If/when I replace or upgrade it'll be to the Zenbivy system.
