Can’t believe she made 40 yards…

Went out this morning - p1ssing rain.

Shot this doe at 60 yards (having waited an hour in the tipping rain for something to step out of the thicket - probably five of them)

Looks like a solid heart shot, but amazed how far she made it before crashing (120gr sako 6.5 CM blade - 2cm entry, 4cm exit hole)

Dog was on form as the puddles show up as a strong white in the thermal.

B@stard extraction. 🙄

Better than decorating my son’s bedroom any day. 😄

Proper udder full.

Main thing Russ is it is home hanging up and you have dried out.
ps thank you for the Santa parcel :tiphat:

Shoot them with a .375 if you like, they will still run. Shot placement, not calibre is the only way to prevent runners if it’s an issue
Yes to a point but neck/head shots are not always practicable so a sledgehammer over stilleto approach to chambering will most certainly help in this regard.

Which ribs did the shot go through? Whatever the calibre/bullet, I find that if it goes through 3rd on both sides they just drop.

Had the same on a CWD buck this week, 24 Metres with the same round, ran 50 Metres before piling up, heart shredded

Only had seconds as ended up downwind so went for for the centre mass option.

2nd in 3rd out exit - didn’t get a photo.

Regardless of calibre (I do have bigger) it doesn’t take away from the fact that she made an impressive distance with half a heart!

All animals have a pretty good anaerobic capacity- in other words their muscle and brain functions can perform without oxygen being supplied by blood. Indeed anaerobic capacity is there to give that extra boost of power. A sprinter runs a 100m race pretty much without much intake of oxygen.

All you are doing when you take out the heart is stopping the pump from pumping oxygenated blood to muscles and brain. At the shot the animal will run till the brain and muscles exhausts their anaerobic capacity and the animal collapses. They can cover a lot of distance in that time.

The Hilar shot placement also takes out the central nervous system rendering the animal immediately unconscious, and it drops on the spot.

To Quote Tom Jones , "it's not unusual".!!!

Understand completely
Used a 450 bushmaster for the first time a few weeks ago. Shot a large whitetail down at a downward angle from a high seat. She stepped forward as I shot so smashed rear of lungs, jellied the liver and had a giant exit hole

Expected a “dead right there” moment. What I got was 125 yards of tracking.
