Can dogs have a stroke ?

My then GF now wife’s Golden Retriever had what we assumed was some sort of stroke at about 8.5 years old. Her head tilted permanently and she just looked twisted and unbalanced. She never improved and was clearly in great distress. Went to the vets with a well loved family pet and returned with a collar! A terrible day for the entire family. The vet concluded that she’d likely had some sort of stroke. We now have this beautiful hound as the family dog. Mrs K loves her GR’s!

Just in case folk are asking WTF, these are the cranial nerves - ones that are senses or motor nerves that come out directly from the brain to muscles or organs. Before MRI scanners, docotrs and vets could work out pretty well where eg tumours were in the brain based on these nerves. Bells palsy is a common paralysis of the 7th nerve - the one that Geoff Boycott has.
To remember them in order, there was a smitty mnemonic....

Indeed, several mnemonics and, as always, the most memorable were the filthy ones!
