carcass hanging rails

probably been asked before but have bought a small walk in fridge and looking for ideas or how people have installed hanging rails I know you can get ones that bolt to the ceiling but worried about wither the roof would be strong enough has any one bought or made up a free standing rail useing scaffold tube for instance

I use this system in my small walk in chiller - it was originally recommended on SD somewhere. Coach bolts through the ceiling panel and then a large square washer on the back to spread the load a bit. If you were overly worried then I guess you could include a layer of decent ply on top of the ceiling panel and use that to spread the load even further. Various lengths available but I've just got a couple of straight rails in mine. And I cut the hooks off and just use the eyes with normal s-hooks and gambrels.

BTW - I think I did some very basic fag-packet calcs when installing mine. I could stand on a 4cm x 4cm square washer on top of the panel without it even leaving a mark... So I reckoned on 75kg per bolt / washer and installed 3 or 4 per rail I think. It's had a decent red in there and nowt fell off!

Thats good to know I did have a thought of running something like 4x2’s or place 3/4inch ply On top of the fridge which I’ve got a supply of to spread the load

I decided to go through with an 8mm x 40mm S355 bar and support from oudside rather than build a frame inside which was my first train of thought. I'm spanning a 1.8m wide fridge and a couple of calcs indicated just a couple mm deflection with a full row of adult sika. It didn't notice 7 roe the other day.

Yes there'll be a bit of thermal loss running the rail outside but there's no restrictions that may have come from an internally built frame.

I may be able to post a couple of pictures on the weekend.
