Chainsaw recommendations

My recommendation is that you do the course before you buy the saw. Boring (see what I did) I know but you will learn stuff you never knew existed.

Weird cause when I said I was selling the 555 folk were queuing up to buy it .
The dealer said they sell easy as all the pro guys buy them up.

Its because they dont know any better, their relying on past reputations the 2 and 3 series were excellent saws.
Even now the performance of a brand new saw is not much better, really very little from an old 254 to a modern 550, except the 550s lucky to last much longer than warranty, if ur lucky
254s still going 40yrs later.
And still are ( despite my hatred for new huskys i might buy a 353 to use some husky bar and chains up)

There is something far wrong when pro cutters are selling new saws to buy 'new' saws that are a 30 year old design.
Seemingly still make them at factory for africian and south americian markets, good old emissions to blame for uk/europe

20-30 years ago all the pro cutters all ran exclusively orange saws, was actually rare to see a white 1.
Now its the other way round.
In fact getting rarer and rarer to find a forestry cutter runing orange now.

( not that u ever seen 555s in the woods anyway, more a farmers saw but thats probably a good thing)

Just to add buying a 2nd hand saw can be dodgy and no real way to know wot ur getting.

U could have a very clean saw, tidy plastics done bugger all work.
But only takes a few badly mixed tanks of fuel to really screw up saw.

Sometimes ur better buying a saw thats been worked harder but u know 100% its only had decent 2 stroke throu it.

Ive bought a couple of 2nd hand saws, but i knew who i bought them off and he wasnae wanting a lot off money for them.

I wouldnt pay a lot for a 2nd hand saw no matter how clean it looked.
But like everything u pay ur mobey u take ur chances.

Mine has been ultra reliable and the pros I’ve spoken to seem to love them.

Mine certainly sold fast and had plenty interest. So maybe they aren’t that bad .

Wow the 880 has about the same power as a small car.
I invested in the safety gear years ago as I’ve grown quite fond of my legs, I like having two.
I’m careful with my kit and will clean and sharpen my mates saw before its return. If I lend anything out it’s always on the proviso, you fcuk it you fix it.
Looking at the husky 572, seems like it should suit the job??

Yes, I run one with two different bars - a 20" and a 28". It's a monster with the 20" on it and it's still a bit of an animal with a 28 on it!
