Starting a new thread for this so the focus is on sympathy for Josh and his Team and not just the would-be purchaser of these aesthetically pleasing moderators.
As indicated elsewhere I committed to purchasing an Evolution for my 6mm PPC. The journey’ began by first being informed I could not simply order one in 6mm as each Wildcat mod’ now must be calibre-specific. Fine I thought as happy to have the mod stamped PPC rather than 6mm/243 that is their generic marking prior to proof.
So, just as I’m about to slap £265 on the RFD’s counter I’m advised that if I want one stamped in the same calibre as the rifle and not 6mm/243, the mod and rifle will need to be proofed. The cost of which rises to circa £350 and will likely take 4-months.
My next question was “if I’m happy to have one that is marked 6mm/243, are you able to put it on my FAC?” The answer was it will depend how the slot appears on your FAC:
a. If you have permission for a .243 moderator then yes you can just purchase a .243 moderator.
b. If it states simply “6mm Moderator” then again it’s a little grey but we can get away with it.
c. If however your FAC states “6mm PPC Moderator”, then we cannot sell a .243/6mm moderator on that slot.
Where moderators go down as what they are with their serial number they have to be the right calibre for that slot. It’s a bit like I can’t sell a .22-250 mod to someone on a .223 slot or vis versa.
Guess what’s written on my FAC just above the entry to aquire a “6.5 moderator”?
You couldn’t make this nonsense up but such are the challenges of FAC holders in 2023.
Hope this helps someone in a similar position who’s unsure how to proceed.
K
Ps: Guess I could ask for my FAC to be amended to read 6mm moderator but that could take a few months too!
