Chamber cleaning

What do you guys use to clean your chamber? I have been using hornady one shot and a rag, however it’s become apparent that I need to clean it properly as I can feel the grit as I cycle the bolt, 1 it doesn’t feel nice, 2 I don’t want to scratch the chamber or bolt.
I’m looking for a top of the range rod and accessories to clean the chamber/lug area

Tipton produce a pretty good chamber/lug cleaning kit for about £20. Chamber clean with acetone (aka nail varnish remover) on the swab to ensure proper degrease. If gritty on cycle remember the bolt raceways inside the action these do get gummed up and benefit from a PTFE/microslick coat to stop gumminess and be smooth. You say top of the range - Sinclair did a very nice version of the Tipton for a bit more money as I recall

Can you feel it when cycling with no dummy case or round in the rifle?
If you can, it sounds like it's not the chamber but the bolt-way or the bolt itself that needs a look at.

A clean chamber is always good though.

A bronze 20 bore cleaning brush also works well.
I assume you mean for the bolt runway? I sometimes use a .45 brush for typical stalking calibres chambers.

If you don’t have a decent rod and brush you probably need to give the whole of the barrel a very good clean. I prefer Parker Hale and you can always get consumables. Whatever you get, a one piece polymer coated rod will work and make sure brushes is readily available for the brand, not just the one you can get the cheapest online or being pushed by the local dealer.

I have vfg rod and felts for barrel cleaning, which I do really like, it’s something for the action/lug area

Yes the bolt runway but also an oversized brush should get into the lug holes. I use a a variety of brushes plus this "chamber brush" which gets into the lugs. I also use a rag over the top of the brush to mop out the solvent until clean or repeat.

You could always try filling the chamber with solvent or bore foam. You could secure the rifle pointing downwards, plug the barrel with a foam earplug and put a container under it to catch any drips.

Hi,
I have one of those tools that holds a piece of flat felt that goes in the lug recesses.
I give all the chamber area a good squirt with this as it’s pretty powerful fluid jet.
Ken.

I bought a .338 brush in SGC ,purely because it looked ideal for chamber cleaning.
Very similar to this image.

Shotgun cleaning rof

The wooden type with brass threaded joiner

Split apart and drill a hole at 90degree as close to the end of the brass as possible at a diameter large enough to accommodate the cotton cylinder type dental swabs

Use these and carb cleaner to wash the action lugs
