Christmas dinner

Not sure yet, but I've already been told the one thing it won't be!

Made a porchetta last year. Was absolutely delicious, but the joint was a easy 6kg before any ministrations. The two of us were eating porchetta for the next fortnight!

Although I have to say, porchetta in a french onion soup, or on a home made pizza, is an equally lovely way to enjoy it!

Stuffed roast hen pheasant with traditional trimmings of beef dripping-roasted tatties and root veg, an odd ensconced piglet, and a decent drop of good claret. The gravy made from the giblets, of course.

The other delights are for the days beyond Boxing Day, when we are together with family.

I should clarify that although we are having curry for Christmas dinner, in the 27th we will have a cockerel with all the usual accoutrements (so a trad Christmas meal!!)

christmas day my girlfriend and i will have mussels and fizz cooked on the beach then boxing day will be traditional turkey roast , we alternate this annually to fit with when we have our kids.

i really like turkey done well but i may be out voted in favour of a rib of beef which is no real hardship as i love that as well

Feeling hungry now!!

So, to add a little spice to the mix, what’s your Christmas Eve meal?

We have a household tradition of having KFC and champagne! (Other fried chicken outlets are available) Big family feast job!
No idea how we ended up with this, but it’s a low effort meal before my cooking marathon starts the next day!!

Missus is from Luxembourg, and so we keep to her family's traditional Christmas Eve meal of a cheese fondue 🤤

Always massive selection of cured/pickled fish and copious little tots of ice-cold vodka - traditional courtesy of wife's Swedish background

Christmas day often starts with a bucks fizz to clear the head after that

Given we are now less than a month from the big day, what is everyone planning for their Christmas dinner?

We have an alternating model with a traditional (beef, goose or (if my wife he’s her way) turkey) meal one year and then an alternative meal the next.

This year it’s the alternative meal, so we will be having curry!!

Durban chicken curry
Maldivian king prawn curry
Chicken korma
Tandoori goat chops
Pilau rice
Naans
Kachumba salad!!

What’s going to be on your plates?
Roast,grass fed local beef!

The key is key: ‘Fish’ ‘ n fizz, - the latter a good English sparkling.
Possibly/probably a good Polish vodka to wash down the buckwheat blinis.

Used to have (imported!) plain bugles with the cream cheese in, dip of egg and a few ‘sprinkles’ on top, but more latterly the blinis with cheese egg & finely chopped onion with the ‘roe’ takes the prize.

A quail egg and a sliver of carpaccio never did any harm.
