Clothing...

Granted my experience of Harkila has been with Roe sacks and wellies but I have not been impressed and found their kit to be of really poor quality at an exorbitant price point and would avoid them at all cost.

I have a pair of Swazi driback fleece trousers which are 8 seasons old now.

They are very comfortable, very quite and pretty much look like they did when I got them new.

Worn with gaiters they are like fleece plus fours, warm and quick drying I really rate them.

You don't have to buy direct from NZ either, the guys at Swillingtons offer a good range and great service, I recently got a Swazi Kagoule from them cheaper than I could get it from Swazi.

Kind regards

I have never really solved the trouser problem and really don't have a good solution.

I have several pairs of Harkila, including most recently the ProHunter X. They are robust and haven't fallen apart but they didn't really stay waterproof for so very long, they were better than most previous waterproof trousers I've had and I guess if you are only out 4 or 5 days per year they'd do you for 10 years. I'm still wearing mine after maybe 2 - 3 years but they aren't waterproof and haven't been for a long time but at least they haven't fallen apart which puts them ahead of almost everything else I've had which has usually lasted weeks rather than months. I'd probably not buy another pair as I'm still hunting for a good solution but for the vast majority of stalkers you might not wear them out in a lifetime.

I currently use Ridgeline clothing jackets - however I find them like wearing a bin bag in terms of being soaking inside after a walk. Is Swaziland like this?

No such problems with Swazi, I find they work well and no overheating issues so far with my Kagoule and didn't have any issues with my Tahr.

While the trousers aren't waterproof they are shower proof and dry really quickly. In winter I wear polypropylene long johns underneath and am never cold.

I really rate my Severn top as well, it is only supposed to be wind proof but I treated mine with diverdaves repel and it is more than capable in summer showers.

Hope that's of some help?

Gold man Ben. I was worried it would end up being an expensive version of Ridgeline...

Ridgeline has its uses before I knock it too much. But it does keep all water in

They shouldn't be leaking they have a 5 year warranty too. They will need a wash with tech wash to put the repellency back on the outer shell and that is a once a year job. One sachet should be plenty for the trousers, or a 300ml bottle will do both the Jacket and trousers quite happily.

One of the problems with waterproof garments it sweat condensing on the lining (the lining in prohunter is the Gore-tex membrane) Test this out with a plastic bag in your trouser pocket, before too long the pocket will be really damp.

Our blog covers off reproofing

All the best
Andrew
