Correct mounts for a Parker Hale?

Big Mat

Bought a .222 Parker hale last year, came with scope ready mounted, gun was cheap and scope was basically a freebie.

Anyhow, looking it over today to get it zeroed up as I haven't had chance to use it, and the mounts are all wrong.

So I need to get some new ones, what should I be looking for size wise for the dovetails?

Budget is not alot, too many vets bills used to my shooting fund!

Thanks
Mat

Either get some proper Parker-Hale mounts, or swap those bases for Weavers which will give you a wider choice of mounts that you can use.
Having said that, I haven't been able to source the right Weaver bases for my Parker-Hale rifles, despite seeing them listed on several sites. Therefore I have proper P-H mounts on both my P-H rifles.

Mat as you say the existing mounts are all wrong, in fact a bit of a botch.
The cheapest and easiest way would probably be get a set of the correct Sportsmatch rings which are pretty good for the money. Replacing the bases with a set of Leupold/Redfield steel bases and rings is probably the best solution but would be a bit more costly.
I see that the receiver has the stripper clip thumb cut out in the left wall so obviously an older Parker Hale built on an ex-military action for which you shouldn't really have that much difficulty obtaining suitable bases if you look in the right place.

Rimfire 9-11mm stretched to fit a PH weaver 19-21mm mount

We have 30mm and 1" Parker Hale Rings with the correct recoil pin to match the hole in the dovetail.
Some Weaver mounts wont fit as they are designed to fit a rail and have a recoil lug to fit into the rail
Sportsmatch weaver mounts are excellent but won't fit for this reason

You need Warne or similar style ones where the recoil lug can be removed

we have those too...

It's a 1" tube, 3-9x40 scope, can you send me some prices please?

With such a scope you should be able reduce the current height it's purched over the barrel by a significsnt amount with the correct PH mounts & rings. Just make sure you can lift the bolt without hitting the oculer tube.

The current setup looks a complete mess but to your credit you know that.

Hi,

I asked a similar question for a mate back in Feb and the reply was

"There are a few offerings on the market, Weaver, Talley, Leupold, aso. All somewhat budget stuff but works fine. You will do better searching for Mauser 98 extended bases and rings than offset.

Also, warne do front bases that are extended with matching rings, and the extension isn’t so along as to give that ugly rail look, yet long enough. Can also with warne QD rings give the quick detatach option "

My mate still has not sorted so can't comment on the detail. I do not know how to link in with my thread so have just cut and pasted 1 response which pretty much covered the general reply's but thread was in gunsmithing section in Feb 19 if you wanted to view it.

good luck
