Countryfile - shooting's role in the countryside

This week's Countryfile (BBC2 7pm Sunday 8 January 2023) will focus on shooting's role in the countryside. One of the subjects set to be covered is avian influenza and its impact on shooting, for which BASC's head of game and wildlife management, Glynn Evans, was interviewed. Although we have no control over what makes the final edit of the show, we were happy to work with the BBC to discuss one of the most pressing issues facing shooting currently.

I look forward to it being a properly ” Objective investigation/review) of the situation with the same confidence I have in winning the lottery this weekend

You would think BASC as they contributed would get to see what they are going to broadcast before it is, unless live TV.

Did BASC specify they would not do the interview if Cwiss was allowed a comment ? Or is this another 'grasping at straws' ?

At least it will hopefully highlight shooting having a positive impact in the countryside and thus for wildlife. We're any other shooting orgs contributing to this?

It sounds like they are balancing it with a section on an estate which does eco-tourism instead. I haven’t watched it for a long time but look forward to this. I hope it is properly balanced and unbiased- Julia Bradbury shot a few pheasants on one episode so they aren’t completely against showing the truth.

The notes say they are looking at how the shooting estate contributes to the local economy. It could be enlightening to their normal audience.

Shooting orgs need to be highlighting these things to as much of the public as possible, well done basc for getting amongst it, hopefully others will do the same

I hope we don’t hear any nonsense about “tradition and sport ” , we need hard facts and science because the emotional arguments and images on the anti’s side are far more powerful than anything we’ve got.
Frankly I’m not looking forward to the programme, we’re likely to put up a fairly dismal defence if the producer concentrates on driven shooting.

Let’s just hope that they have trained someone up and had them properly coached by a media professional. Sadly we always seem to be represented by some buffoon in a silly hat that is the absolute stereotype of what people expect a toff or a toffs manservant to be like!
