Covid-19

If and when you have to isolate. Don't underestimate how boring it is. Make sure you have books, games, toys, hobbies, diy stuff, etc., plenty of reloading materials, airgun pellets for shooting squirrels out of windows etc.
Also ensure you have enough paracetamol to control fevers, and cough sweets or strepsils; especially if you have sprogs - Calpol's at a premium.

We've been doing it for just over 24hrs now. It took 90 mins to get cabin fever, now am really ffffffff bored and the prospect of the coming week....

Time to go stalking, Apthorpe, you've got to feed the family after all (in case the lady of the house queries your motive).

18 Months ago I had 4.5 months of it (enforced after op) nearly drove me mad. Couldn't even get out unless somebody kind took me a run round the estate. It ain't fun but us 70+ lot will probably be in lock down for 4 months+. Sod it, as I'm a bit more mobile now I shall go and sit quietly watching along the river or up the side of a wood.
Munties and rabbits look out. ☻

I could've missed it but have the medical experts stated that it can only be caught once and after that you're immune?

There's already a couple of strains of Covid 19, 'S' and 'L';

I wonder what Covid 20 will bring next time?

"I say, waiter - there seems to be a deadly virus in my cream of fruit bat and pangolin soup..."

Pangolin's revenge? Plenty collateral. Still, mustn't judge the cultures (see what he did there?) of others by our own standards, they obviously "feel the need - the need to breed"

The strains are so similar that those working on a vaccine say it'll be effective against both, plus any other minor mutations.

That is presumed to be the case. Although at least one person has caught both strains at the same time.
Coronaviruses are a whole family of viruses, some of which are common human diseases. What we know from them is that humans do develop immunity, but that immunity may not be lifelong.

We can presume that vaccines will be found and available in 1-2 years. We only really need worry about the period until then.

I'd heard (Radio 4, so in fairness it could be metropolitan elite nonsense too) that it was/is possible to contract one type, get over it, only to come down with the other, more recent and virulent type, whether the variation between the two is a minor or major mutation I cannot say. There would appear to be instances or cases of people having caught both strains, according to the account, I think on last week's Today programme; add salt to taste.

The custom/habit/culture of the peoples with 'unusual culinary proclivities' of this world may need to be considered in the round at some future point ("..we need to learn lessons, and to ensure that this never happens again.." as our authority types are always reminding us whenever something goes wrong), should it be felt desirable by the rest of the world so far impacted that the 'risk' of another similar, potentially more deadly outbreak might rather be better prevented than rehearsed, unless of course the good, exotic-soup-slurpers of Wuhan are happy to recompense all impacted as a result for inconvenience/loss/injury? After all, it seems this isn't the first instance of the type - can we learn anything?

we can not get out of our country at this moment.
But we might catch up after the corona-disease.
With all the cancellations of overseas hunters, there must be game left.
Is there some muntjac-stalking available for 2 rifles in Mai?

Some research on the surface stability of this virus was published this week, although not peer reviewed.

To quote: "viable virus could be detected in aerosols up to 3 hours post aerosolization, up to 4 hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard, and up to 2-3 days on plastic and stainless steel."

After the worst of this is is over Donald can build a wall around the rest of China, the one they have was not working.
If they want to keep on eating sh1te then let them but ban all travel in & out for the future both ways. Nice dream I know.

From quarantine, I'd just point out that most UK cases are not now being captured in the statistics. UK statistics are only of people tested. The advice for people with symptoms now is to isolate and they won't get tested unless it gets to the hospital stage or is otherwise serious. The people we know who have it will not be getting tested or featuring in the statistics. If we develop it, we won't be getting tested either. This means probably 80% of cases are not recorded.
Don't assume there are only 1,300 cases of people actually being ill. It's far more like 10-15,000 now.

IMHO anyone who thinksThis came from Bat soup is totally batty. It's just the same as the last Foot and mouth, some experiment that got loose. Ok so it attacks everyone but it's lethal to the old, the perfect euthanasia for population reduction. To me that is why it has spread so quickly throughout the world. But then that would be a conspiracy wouldn't it.

To paraphrase Froude, We may all be sitting in judgment of matters of which we know but little, it is true, but meantime here's a little bit of light reading, including the debunking (or is it more disinfomation??) of the broken loose 'tame' infection:

Trusting there's still time to read and digest the content :tiphat:
