Wanted: Crayfish Trapping

Hi All,

Something a bit different perhaps. I’m looking for a crayfish trapping permission for next spring/summer in south east England, ideally on a nice clean river or stream. The place I used to fish has been sold and I can no longer access.

I use traps that meet the necessary regs and will apply for a license to use them in the area, if I’m lucky enough to find somewhere.

If you can offer fly fishing in the same area, that would be a bonus.

Thanks in advance

Hoping I’ll be doing someone or a fishery a favour by fishing for signals.

Subject to a keeper agreeing, I could probably offer roe stalking for 2 guns in return for 2 rods if you can offer fly fishing as well

Have a bump on me. Unfortunately I didn't get a good response from the club stretches of water when I enquired, was very surprised!

Out of interest, were you ignored or turned away?

I always understood crayfish were fine food for trout - only that the signal crayfish are bad for native crayfish.

Turned away.

Only the trapping of signals is permitted, I believe the potential for bycatch is a big driver for the licensing.
