CZ 511 with nickel barrel/action.

Hi,
Has anyone in the UK got one of these. It's a CZ 511 with most of the metalwork nickel plated. I've just worked on the trigger to get a better trigger pull but haven't changed any springs..
I thought I would try it out first to see if it would function well and it did, with no mal functions. It seems to have a long trigger pull with a lot of creep. And it depends on where you position your trigger finger to get the best 'feel' for the trigger. I don't know what the poundage of the trigger pull is because I haven't got a gauge.
I bought the rifle with 2 magazines and a Parker Hale silencer. Which I have spare inserts for.
There is a slight dint in the stock which will probably steam out. I have just fitted this long scope on the rifle because I didn't want to remove the back sight for damage reasons. I am yet to fully test the scope out. Previously I had a Simmons White Tail Classic 1.5-5x20 on the rifle. But I wanted a mil dot scope and this great long thing was the only one that would fit without removing the back sight. I think I made a mistake but finances had to come into it.
I have just wasted my time I can't attach a photo on this forum goodbye.

Hi,
I could not see that for the life of me last night! I'll now try to attach the photo.

Hi,
Further to what I stated last night I tried to get various spring has suggested by guys in Rimfire Central. I got some from Chambers gun spare but never fitted them. It was also suggested that I fit a 20 lb Colt Auto National Match hammer spring, but it's suggested internal dimensions were less than the CZ 511 hammer spring 'holder'. Sorry for the probably incorrect names of parts but at my age I can't remember them!
I have always found the CZ 511's trigger too heavy and I've had it a fair while. The only .22 semi auto I had previous to the CZ, was a Krico, but I can't actually remember the trigger pull being heavy on that rifle.
I have fired an old Brno 581 way back, and I can't remember that trigger being particularly heavy. With regards to the two previous rifles were talking about the mid 1970's.
Do all .22 semi autos have heavy trigger pulls?

There are plenty of 511's still doing the business. I had one for years until I changed to a 512. There is not a lot you can do to improve the trigger, it requires a lot of skill to work on it. It is a sealed unit not designed to be taken apart. A light polishing is about as much as can be done without ending up with it shooting full auto 🙈
Parts are now difficult to find.
That scope wouldn't be for me. It overpowers the rifle. A cheap s/h hawke 3-9 or 4-12 mildot would be plenty on it. There are 3 options for the rear sight if the scope doesn't clear it. Use a set of mounts to allow it to do so. The sight blade can be pulled back halfway to leave it sitting a little lower. Or remove the rear sight, put it away safely because you probably won't find another one. The sight will tap out of the dovetail from the side with a brass punch.
Hope that helps.

Id love to know how the krico auto shot, I had a bolt action krico and it was amazing.
Re the 511 trigger, I would love to have a go of improving one. Not come across a trigger that cannot be improved upon yet....
Just get higher mounts if the scope isn't satisfactory. Scopes do not need to be close to the barrel, another dumb myth.

Hi,
Regarding the trigger you can take it apart. I think I got the info from Rimfire Central. I worked on the hammer notch and the sear. There was marks on the sear caused by the hammer notch. I removed them by stoning. And polish both parts with fine stoning. Before testing, I did very extensive cleaning of all the operating mechanism of the rifle. It functioned without any problems. Note these rifles need a lot of cleaning including the magazines. I use Eley subs which are mucky. By the way my rifle is a sub only model. I don't shoot high velocity on any .22 lr. I don't think they are accurate.

Oh I know the trigger can be taken apart, you obviously have the skill to do the work you have done on it. It is not something I would take on, I've heard too many horror stories. Mine was the subsonic model also, just meant the recoil spring was a bit lighter to cycle the action. It also cycled standard velocity fine.

Hi,
It was 1975 when I had the Krico semi-auto. The police asked me to sell it because I was going to work abroad. So, has far has I can remember it function OK. It also had a facility to be manually loaded. I don't think the trigger was anything special but it's such a long time ago.

I remember they could be locked for single shot use. That would be handy for low power ammo.
Thanks.

Hi,
I would have prefered a MTC 3-12x44 Copperhead scope, but it is out of my price range at the moment. I would have to determine if it would fit first.
I got the rifle to use at night with ranges limited to 50 yards. I was using a lamp on it for a start. I then got a Pulsar Digisight N550, but it's such a heavy old lump of kit. And, I don't have decent night vision gear only a Yukon Ranger 6.6x42, which I find strains my eyes and is only good for spotting would be thieves.
I was thinking of selling the lot and using my FAC air rifle for night shooting in winter. The only snag with this is the CZ 511 has a more flatter trajectory than the 40 ft/lb FAC air rifle.
I would then try to get a .22 hornet for long range rabbiting. Hopefully converting it to K hornet. I think I would have to get rid of the CZ 511 to have any chance of a variation for the hornet.
I don't like the idea of a .17 HMR, the round is too expensive and you throw the case away after you have shot it. Plus there is no difference in the prices of .224 bullets has against .17 bullets, and the .224 is better against wind.
By the way I asked the dealer who I bought the FAC air rifle from, what he would give me for the CZ 511. And, he said £30 and nobody wants semi autos nowadays.
It will never go for that!

The smallest 5-shot group I ever fired with a .22LR was with my 1967 511 and a 4x scope. It was a single hole st 25m using Aguila Standard Velocity ammo.~Muir
