CZ 600 Trail curiosity quelled....

My disappointment with CZ dropping their 527 line up is profound but not the subject here. I got looking at the 600 Trail in 7.62x39 and thought that I might give it the benefit of the doubt. Despite the fact that it is a rifle for which minimal manufacturing effort is expended, the price is $400 US higher than than the last 527 I purchased at $1150 US MSRP. Plastic and aluminum? Nearly unobtainable magazines? I could buy a good AR for that money. Still, I've been considering ordering the Trail.

That was, until I read the latest issue of The American Rifleman magazine which featured a review of the 600 series in which they said that CZ "guaranteed" a whopping 2 MOA from this rifle. Two MOA?? My $400 Ruger American in that chambering will deliver under 1.5 MOA with cheap Russian ammo.... ~Muir

They've been getting very bad reviews up here as well . Considering they retail for about $ 1600 CDN up here , they aren't impressing many people . I can buy a comparable , and more accurate , rifle design for a lot less . It's too bad , I'm an admirer of most things CZ .

CZ's 527 were (are) good rifles. Robust, accurate if a little rough around the edges.

I'm surprised to learn of such poor accuracy from the trail rifle, especially as their advert here for the new 600 Alpha is sub moa and I note from their instruction manual for the 600 Trail, a claimed accuracy of the same (ie under 1moa). I was looking to replace my own 527 at some point but won't be looking to this new breed of CZ if 2moa is all they can actually achieve.

At a whopping £1262 here, that makes a Tikka seem cheap. I wouldn't countenance a CZ when I can buy a quality and accurate Tikka for less.

Handled one at the RFD the other day, terribly plastic fantastic and apparently already subject to a recall.

I fear the end of a top brand and I am a big CZ fan too

New cz not as good as old cz
New tikka's not quite as good as old tikka's .
Looked at a 600 recently and it was obviously 'squint' in the stock .
I have or have had old versions of both.

How low have CZ fallen?
Exactly a year ago today I purchased my last CZ 527 in 7.62x39. It came factory pillar bedded, glass bedded, with a steel recoil lug support. Darlk checkered walnut stock. Everything I put through it out of the box shot sub -MOA. My handloads were 1/2 MOA. I paid $788 for that rifle.

Now they want $1150 for an investment cast aluminum, 2 MOA POS in a plastic stock. ~Muir

Yes, indeed, yet that's "progress" for you. My little 527 is devcon bedded (not factory) has a lovely little action on it, is robust and accurate. I'd have a bergara or T3x over any new CZ600 when it comes time to replace it.

Apparently down to the switch barrel system not holding on to the barrel very well

It was down to CZ worrying over owners installing the barrel incorrectly resulting in accidents (and one reported incident allegedly) so they bonded it in with some sort of adhesive, yet the bolt lug locked the barrel in place. Gunsmiths can still heat and replace the barrels.

How can someone with multiple (3?) CZ527's need more?

That's too much FREEDOM for us to fathom! o_O

I've purchased 10 of them in various configurations. Gave the 204 to my girlfriend, a Hornet and a 7.62x39 to my son and the rest I shoot. I would have continued my selfish ways but for CZ'a abrupt slide into the pool of mediocrity.~Muir
