I know a few army reservist are SD members so what’s your opinion on raising the age limit to 65 seems somewhat strange asking pensioners to fight up to the age of 65.

Swedish military retirement age for reservists is as high as 70: they recognise that not every reservist has to be fit and agile enough to storm trenches all day long - lots of other roles need filling, and there is a huge amount of untapped skills and talent currently going to waste in the pool of former servicemen.
Ukraine has a way higher average age for service personnel than we do, and they are doing incredible things.

BTW: In don’t think Starmer is “ASKING anybody to fight for him”. Instead the Government will be TELLING reservists that their liability will extend far longer - it will be duty, not an option. But, ultimately that is life in a green/blue/grey suit….

Plenty of necessary UK based and non combat roles which you could free combat capable individuals from so they can be spared for deployment with such a policy.

I doubt the Russians or other opponents are going to discriminate regarding who they kill based on age.

It would reduce the befits bill if they got the sick, lame and lazy trained up first, there's plenty of under 30's sat on their backsides taking handouts from this government.
I've already given 22 years of service to this country ( Bosnia, Kosovo, NI, Falklands, Iraq), and now at 60, it's someone else's turn.

I'm 68 and still working for the MOD in my 49th year - 5 Sep 26 marks 50 years :old: Yes, I took the uniform off in 2001, but as others rightly say, there's many roles that do not need to be "fit young people" (nearly wrote men there ).

Indeed, I smile inwardly as I take serving Army (and Navy) personnel out stalking over military training areas as DDM trainees, that I'm not to shabby for my age (and a dammed sight better with a rifle than some) 🤗
