Deer on veiw law when transported ?

The sight of a dead animal could easily cause upset to some people/children, this could then be taken as a Breach of the Peace.

Rubbish. Thats the reason you profession are not liked jump to conclusions then after 300 weight of paperwork it goes to court and is kicked out wasting tax payers money.

First Question to ask is who is distressed dont blame the kids most I have met are more curious than distressed its the parents/ teachers/anties everything group who cause trouble. and believe me We see hundreds over the course of a year.unfortunatly is the modern culture who can we sue and for how much if theres a quid in it soliciters seem to be willing to try it.:suss:

Let's not forget that we have tourists who complain of finding dead fish in a harbour (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/t...complains-about-sight-of-fish-in-harbour.html) saying it resulted in their children being "distressed".

Sometimes you wonder why we don't all emigrate.....

This just cannot be. Widow's Son says that the possibility of somebody making a complaint of this nature is "Rubbish" and all down to the "disliked Police jumping to their own conclusions". Common sense must prevail and anybody taking their family to a working fishing harbour should expect to see dead fish but like wise common sense should have prevailed with the OP's situation. If you run about any town or village with a dead deer on open display in the back of your vehicle you are wide open to being complained about by the likes of the man in this article and despite what Widow's son may think, the Police are duty bound to deal with the matter even if it does create paperwork. If there is a sufficiency of evidence of a contravention of law, deal with the matter by way of warning or reporting to the PF for consideration of prosecution.
The original post in this thread asked if what he was doing was illegal. There is no law which states that you cannot carry a dead deer in the back of your vehicle but by doing so your actions COULD be deemed to you having acted in a disorderly manner and hence a BOP. Why invite the hassle.

A couple of years ago I was at a small game fair and David Stretton was demonstrating the gralloch using a life sized furry deer doll complete with zips and foam filled innards. A mixed audience of mums, dads and kids looked on enjoying David's undoubted skill and ability. After he had completed what he was doing he started talking about the need to inspect the lymph nodes and at that point he removed a real fallow head from a plastic bag and proceeded to expose the submaxillary and retropharangeal nodes. The audience reaction was instant and interesting, the dads hardly moved or blinked, the mums turned away and looked worried, the kids tried to get as close to the action as possible so they could see what was going on.

A bloke has to get his meat home somehow,I`m too old to be carrying 1/2 a deer these days over my shoulder.

Alex I've been on the firing line of spurious complaints by neighbours seeing red and roe being taken out of my vehicle and put in the chiller the police came to see what the complaint was all about then gave the person a visit 5 minutes after the left there house the complained again the chief inspector came out to see them and myself the complained about the chief inspector the didn't like the answers .

They were told that I was in conjunction with a lawful pastime carrying out the requirement of my job and to stop making wasteful complaints .

On the same point of view I've met loads of hill walkers whilst dragging using ponies and vehicles to extract some have made complaint only to be told these things happen in the countryside it is a management process.

However some people make complaining a way of life some get ther way but there are many that don't as you will rightly know.

In the areas that are predominately red deer the forestry commission have a hoist system on there pickups where the deer lay in the open to cool .

Best practice is not to cover a carcass but to allow it to cool naturally before larding it
But you already know that .

Further to the thread if you were to tie the deer to the bonnet of the vehicle that contravenes a offence in the uk .

I have driven into villages on the west coast of scotland with two dead stags tied to a quad or in an argo and never had a problem. I have also driven back 10 minutes in Dorset with dead deer tied on the back of my quad. Never had a problem. I have also in the past as a Taxidermist delivered full mounts of Lion, Leopard and Grizzly bear and never had a problem.

This clinically clean PC world we live in drives me NUTS!! You will always get some busy body or anti who dosnt like what you are doing and takes great peasure in causing problems. If you wash your car in the street they would complain!! or moan about your wife putting kinky underwear out on the washing line on a sunday :D

If you are not breaking the law, and I cant see how you are by going about your legal buisness then the police should prosecute them for waisting their time.

Me......... well I am gonna carry on until someone tells me its illegal.

The deer had to be without a cover as the gamedealer said it would keep the heat in an fire the carcases and i stressed with the owner of the shooting i should put in a horse box and he insisted it not necessary ? as i was at filly sttn, the young un went in for a lolly and had a guy comment hope they were shot and not hit ? and as he came out there was a woman stairing at pick up so the young lad staired at her and she said to him what are you stairing at,he replied im stairing at you stairing ,plus all anyone could see is the antlers sticking up and can only assumed the rest, but as some said best to keep out of site to save the hassle, then there was the vehicles speeding up behind to see in,sporting lads i would think, one time i had a stag head in front seat going a to b and the cop stopped me at junction as he was walking and said to me im glad you had his seatbelt on laughing, good cop,
