Deer Stalking Short Documentary in Scotland

good film
liked it
more films out there the better IMO

unfortunate that to many on here it will have looked like a gut shot with a .243!
am sure the best practice HSE boys will be along soon to pick apart the process aspect!

I enjoyed this video although short, However you are right I was sitting with my wife watching it and the first thing I said was that looks to be a gut shot , I more preserved shot would have shown less blood when piercing the skin for the gralloch and it would have made for a less Gorey footage but these things happen and can be unavoidable seen far worse shots and a lot of green, but thats my only criticism as I think it was very informative.

We shot the deer and then moved it, I wonder if in that movement the disturbance to it caused the blood to come out in the gralloch. As when the deer was shot it dropped pretty instantly.

That being said I am not an expert and have only been on 2 stalks in total.

Good video informative and honest people should show the facts
Before the shot placement is criticised how many have never had the same (except keyboard stalkers of course:stir:)

I once made a perfect heart/lung broadside shot on a roe buck. Straight in one side and out the other. When gralloched there was blood and **** everywhere. The bullet had broken when hitting a rib and travelled right through the gut mashing it to pieces.

My mentor was about to give me a right telling off until he saw the textbook entry and exit holes. It happens.

Excellent. Re gut shot..i was expecting green all over..however didn't see any of it. Maybe case separated, or was deflected as it went through. It happens.
On another note, his gaiters seemed pretty robust.

sorry I was not criticising the person or the shot
it happens.

my point was to show that scenario of shot in film form opens yourself up to precisely what has happened over the last three pages when presenting these things to people who already have an interest and know or claim to know

it doesn't harm the sport amongst those that know better but doesn't help the wider audience understand when seeing it in full HD

very good, informative, as someone has said, we have all made shots like that, and if you were to take it to maine stream tv i am sure you could sort it out before hand, well done lets see some more,

I agree Bewsher, it had no effect on my opinion of the piece it was informative and factual which is the main aim of the piece, however graphic it was it is still far more humane than the process of farming cows...

Great clip, enjoyed that and would love to see more. Great to see these wee movies posted on here after all it is a Deer Stalking site.

Thank you for posting and doing the video i thaught it was very well done didnt seem rushed i liked the background comentry and music

would be good to see more

as regards the general public its debatable that you would get a good response from most people who dont understand what goes on as a lot of people are naive in the fact that they just dont no were there food comes from
or what it comes from most people live a sheltered life and cant handle the truth about the processes involved in what the eat

i liked his gaiters also

:)

very good filming and also an insight into what is to some people a very different way of life, excellent work thank you, doug,

Spot on very balanced little movie some very professional filming well done.
shows how it is one shot a lot of graft and long hours.
vimeo is a great site and as some fantastic and well made amature videos

Very good video and very informative. The close up on the Gralloch or the removal of the head was not necessary , these should have been done, But at a distance in my opinion if you are to sell it to the public.

That was a cracking film really enjoyed it

As far as the comments about the gralloch and larder work , I could not DISAGREE more, the less you show the public the more they will guess at what goes on, hide nothing from anybody be straight, upfront and at all times brutally honest.

We, the shooting community have spent far too long trying to justify and defend what we do, we now have a man that seems to want to make people aware of the reasons why deer are culled through a splendid documentary, or at least try to, so I don`t think giving only part of the story would help anybody

There has been a giant step forward in the promotion of awareness relating to deer stalking already as seen on BBC Alba "Ghillie Girls" which I thought was excellent in all aspects EXTREMELY GRAPHIC IN ALL DETAILS, and this short film carries on with the true facts about the why`s and wherefores' of stalking that everybody IMO should be made aware of

As said a cracking piece of filming, the scenery was breath-taking, the music enchanting and the narration was perfect

Well done

Bob
