Deerstalking 2045 - what to expect?

Sorry, in addition to my point above, I think it is reasonable to expect a major conflict in that time scale, aside from the catastrophic impact this would have on those involved I expect we could see increasing pressure on land productivity and a real pinch on the availability of ammunition.

2045? Night shooting deer is totally legal, no season for male deer and only a very short closed season for female deer.

Venison has become hugely popular as a wild meat, leading to a five fold + increase in real terms value. This has led to the development of meat culling contractor companies who will take short leases on estates based on the value of the meat revenue. Unfortunately the high venison value, the widespread use of 10th generation thermal imaging has made poaching both extremely profitable and extremely easy for the gangs who now do it. It has become increasing difficult for the amateur stalker to get ground without paying the same high price at least as the contractors would offer. Landowners are laughing all the way to the bank but some are having to employ anti poaching patrols to safeguard their assets

The large herds of fallow and red across the southern half of the UK are now a thing of the past due to the above a factors, and legislation is imminent to give red deer females a 4 year trial close season in an effort to save the species.. there will be no added protection for Fallow as as a non native it has been decided they should go. Like the last of the Wild Boar did ten year ago

Muntjac are though firmly established in Scotland and CWD right up the eastern seaboard of the UK, including a small population thriving on the Black Isle.

I’m pessimistic.

Considering the relentless progression of restrictions on firearm ownership and use, the urbanisation of the UK, the rising population and the increasing feminisation/Disneyfication of the populace, l believe that either the current generation or the next will see the end of “civilian” deer stalking in the UK.

By 2045, this will be a muslim led country, there will be no private firearms ownership, most having been rounded up during the recent civil war.
The end of our country is that close, the end of our way of life has for the most part already gone.

Neil.

2045

The UK is warmer and potentially wetter, leading to more undergrowth along field margins and other unused areas, however agricultural land will be farmed more intensively due to greater insecurity in the global food supply, and to the preponderance of agri-business land ownership after inheritance laws effectively ended family farming. Muntjac will thrive, but be heavily culled, whereas the Fallow Herds of the 2020's are just a distant memory in the minds of the aging members of SD after they were culled out around 2030.

Non-Scottish Stalking has become increasingly commoditised, with commercial entities owning stalking rights to large areas and selling 'recreational' stalking and venison to make a profit.

There will be more structure and bureaucracy - compulsory training and qualifications for both firearms ownership and deerstalking, and it will be rare to refer to stalking as a 'recreational' activity, rather than as a necessary management activity.

Scottish Deer sporting estates will be almost wholly extinct following the banning of Grouse Shooting in 2034 and the constructive banning of sporting stalking via the introduction of too many registers of competence. Most of the Scottish annual cull will be contractorised, although some local recreational stalking will remain.
I've "liked" this. Not because I like it, but because it seems a plausible extrapolation of current trends. 👍

I diagnose a low mental state caused by over-immersion in an oxygen-depleted information bubble and prescribe a daily dose of fine weather and stalking deer. Maybe take a Muslim friend along?

Nearly, how about over immersed in what has become of this country, post election, the day to day struggle of living in a country that I try to pretend still exists.

I do sympathise. I've felt a bit like that ever since the Brexiters took my European citizenship and freedoms away. I grew up in a country that was part of something bigger, and now keeps doing the political equivalent of picking it's toenails. Stalking deer and enjoying the outdoors are some of the best therapies I've found for the gloom and resentment associated with these things, but until the country comes to its senses -and pigs whizz gaily overhead-, I've decided to treat the current pickle were in as something to get over rather than dwell on.

Bullet proof muntjac roaming the streets in gangs, beating up old grannies and stealing their biscuits.
Only thing they are susceptible to is a sharpened stick poked up their nose, meaning that all stalkers have to relearn the long lost spear throwing techniques from the Stone Age.

Or, maybe it will be pretty much the same as today!

I sincerely hope that by 2045 someone will have come up with a less painful way of extracting carcases from the high tops......and as I'll be over 85 yrs of age by then - it won't be me hauling them off the hill!

There will be a massive increase in the general public wandering wherever they like…right to roam etc down south. It’s already increasing with more dog ownership, greater lack of respect for others etc

2045

No recreational stalking permitted .

No seasons at all with shoot on sight policy day or night by employed contractors.

The moment synthetic meat becomes equally priced to traditionally reared- it will be arguably unethical to eat any natural meat- provided they are equally healthy.

Similarly- the moment deer numbers can be controlled with contraception methods- the ethical arguments for shooting them will become a fair bit weaker.

Timeline for either ? Not sure but 20 years is a long time.....

If the above hasn't happened yet- I fear what respect deer have will have decreased and they will be viewed closer to pests. At the least this means night liscence- potentially without carcass extraction.
