I sincerely hope that by 2045 someone will have come up with a less painful way of extracting carcases from the high tops......and as I'll be over 85 yrs of age by then - it won't be me hauling them off the hill!

Won’t be deer left on the hills, and they’ll be covered in wind farms anyway

the biggest hind i ever shot(70kg) in scotland was the only one i ever had to drag a short way uphill , genuinely thought i was going to die !

Yep i know exactly how you feel. The way the head and legs catch on every conceivable obstacle as you drag is beggars belief!

i shot six , two each to drag , had a few near death experiences on the way down then drank too much whiskey back at the larder

yeah, i have some lessons to be learnt there as tend to shoot first then worry about the extraction after. Regretted it a few times if it is a drag up a bank then across a field etc which you cant get a quad or truck to

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with the assumption around the use of tech’ and rising average age.

I’m 30 and don’t know a single other shooter my age or under, so that covers the rising average age.

I work with drones to earn the pennies and when I left school, a drone was only really used by the military, now, you can buy them in Argos.
In the 3 years I’ve worked with them, their capabilities have increased beyond belief.

I’ll use the example of foxing, but believe it carries over.
Farmers are losing money hand over fist. Their crops and livestock making a profit is crucial.
Why would they want somebody trying to locate a problem fox night after night when another person can locate it within a 300ac farm, in pitch black, in complete silence, with a drone the size of a fist and remove the fox within an hour.

By no means am I wishing for that to become the norm, but as the old saying goes ‘Time is money’.

Wont be much golf either, the deer, rabbits, leather jackets will have destroyed the courses
