Deerstalking Fair, 24th & 25th March 2018, Border Union Showgrounds, Kelso (Scottish Borders)

Open 9am - 5pm. Entrance, £10 for adults, under 16 free, parking is also free. Unfortunately as this is an all indoor event no dogs except assistance dogs are allowed in the halls but there are 40acres of extensive and secure parkland that the hall sits in that allows for regular and safe exercising for those who need to bring their dogs with them.

What’s going on at the Deerstalking Fair this year.

Below is a list of Exhibitors and traders attending this years deerstalking fair and some of the brands and products they will be carrying. It will be getting updated between now and the event so keep looking in.

We also have put together several seminars and demos as follows:

Programme of Events:

Eden Valley Venison Gamedealers will be offering a carcass skinning demo and also a short seminar on how to properly prepare and present a carcass for sale and addressing the issues dealers and deerstalkers have to address.

Chefs from the Buccleuch arms Hotel, St Boswells who work extensively with game and in particular venison, will do a butchery and cooking demonstration using the freshly skinned carcass.

We have UKDTR doing a practice exercise on shot site examination following a simulated stalk. This will be held continually throughout the day (each lasting between 15 and 20mins) taking small groups at a time. Anyone wanting to participate can obtain more details and how to book a time by visiting their stand within the main hall. This is a real hands on demo and of immense benefit to anyone wanting to learn more about dog work and shot site examination.

Rudi Van Kets and some members from the Flemish Tracking Association in conjunction with the UKDTR will hold a short power point presentation and Q&A on general dogs for deer work and the differences between dog work on the continent and the UK.

Ed Bewsher of Edinburgh Rifles has been busy with bullet choice/research and terminal performance, collecting immense amounts of data on carcass damage and projectile behaviour. His seminars have been rolled out across several organisations within the UK and he will provide a seminar on this subject at the fair.

SACS with Prof Jim Simpson will offer a short input on diseases found within deer.

We have established a proper sectioned off and seated presentation area this year within the venue. Posters will be placed at the main entrance and throughout the hall showing the timetable for these events, most lasting less than 30mins so as not to distract from seeing what else is on offer. Please take a note of anything you wish to see on arrival as start times will be strictly adhered to as we have a lot to get through over the two days.

We will also post details of these seminars on social media and the fairs website once confirmed with the presenters.

Catering this year is provided by Clan Caterers in conjunction with Anderson’s Butchers, who will have their award winning game and venison pies and other meat products for consumption at the event. We have tried them, they are superb!

Hot and cold beverages are also available including a small bar offering beer, ciders and spirits.
