Deformed leg

We finally caught up with this buck fawn last night. Seen it a few times but no shot and showed on cameras. Just a birth deformity? Was approx 2/3 the size of another fawn with the doe.IMG_4162.webpIMG_4161.webp

Agree- something has been wrapped tightly round that foot. Wire likely, could be fence, snare etc..

The healing pattern looks like granulation tissue plus (and can't be sure from the pic) possibly exposed bone? Whilst likely older/more chronic, to my mind that wound is potentially still trying to heal. I'd be cautious about whether there's any ongoing infection- check the popliteal lymph node in particular (the one behind the knee, nestled between the end of the hamstrings).

Yea we thought possible wire or snare. From camera we believed it was missing from the elbow down so we’re surprised to see a hoof. Went in the dead bin as the shot was to take him down so did a bit of damage to insides but he’s not suffering now.

I shot one recently with a similar injury just a little bit further along. The smell was horrendous. I put it down to a fence injury that it somehow escaped from.
The hoof was still in that mess.

No obvious wire fence involved in this one, but hobbling on this must have hurt

Shot a MJ buck on Saturday that had lost the hoof on one its back legs completely - injury entirely healed. Also came across a fallow buck recently with only one toe.
