Red Stag Missing Leg

Last week I shot my First stag in the Scottish Highlands, when we first spotted him he was at the edge of a plantation hobbling on his rear hind leg which we thought he had broken or dislocated his leg after I made the shot we walked over to him to filed dress and discovered his missing the bottom part of his leg, has anyone seen the legs heel over like this and what do you think may be the case of the missing limb and how long ago he lost in?

He also appears to of only mainly grown an antler on one side the other side is a small stump

There was a fallow buck that used to be around Ashridge a few years ago that had been hit by a car and had a damaged leg and had lost part of his scrotum (maybe even a testicle) and one antler grew just fine but the other was all twisted and grew in a weird direction, ie downward.

Was the stump on the opposite side to the smaller antler?

Very common to see deer missing a lower limb, although perhaps less so in the Highlands where there are fewer fences for them to get hung up on.

Seen a few hung up on fences over the years and mibi that stag missing part of it's rear leg was down to that.

How was the condition of the leg with the stump? My one was pretty much skin and bones on his stumpy leg but otherwise in really good condition we aged him to be 14+
