DMQ to charge AW's

the reply from DMQ.

Many thanks you for your email with regard costs.

Costs have not been determined and will be considered prior to any implementation anticipated to be sometime during 2019.
As stated in the Newsletter, DMQ is not looking to generate income but simply to cover its own cost of administration.
I am sorry that I am unable to help you with more detail.

Regards
DMQ Working Group

At least you got an answer! Which email address did you use please? Perhaps we should all send an e-mail, a standard format that people just copy paste and send?

I replied directly to their email and got an answer thanking me for my message which has been forwarded directly to the Chairman of DMQ.

Rather a blinkered view I think SF. The reality as I am sure you're aware is that very few DSC2 qualified stalkers fall into the catagory that you have just described. You may be annoyed but let's keep it real eh!
I gave up being an AW because I was fed up with prospective candidates contacting me and not having the experience that a L2 was introduced to show.
I had some contact me and my procedure was always an 'Interrogation' of experience before I even met them.
Some would go like this, Contact made in October, "well I did my L1 in March and found it easy peasy, I've done a few paid stalks and now have my own rifle so want to do my L2 because Does are easier to stalk" or "I did my L1 last year and thought it is about time I did my L2" not having done anything since !!
I did get one or two that knew exactly what they were doing and had been doing it for quite some time and only wanted L2 to qualify for a lease that they were applying for. The last twenty + years that they had been stalking regularly and culling quite a few Deer did not count without the L2 paper, which in a lot of cases did not prove anything.
So I feel that SF was quite correct in a lot of cases I'm afraid to say.

I think SF’s post is spot on!

You would be surprised at the number of stalkers who have level 2 and have only shot 20 beasts full stop.

I have witnessed stalkers that within 6 months of passing L2 they are on the AW list, all who you know not what you know!
That is the fault of fellow AW's I'm afraid Lee. Who recommended them for the list?

Exactly the reason I have always thought DSC1 and 2 aren’t entirely fit for purpose (I have both). Wherever there is money to be made or other benefits (lease requirements etc) some people will cash in and some candidates with insufficient experience will either feel pressure to obtain the ‘qualification’ to almost ‘prove’ their knowledge.

The DMQ may well have just created a rod, not only for their own back, but for both professional and recreational stalkers. Just wait and see if another provider comes along with something more fit for purpose and all of a sudden the DMQ will become obsolete and then a lot of people will have to start again. It’s all about the money/monopoly on qualifications and always has been.

It seems finally people are seeing the light !!!

In the accounts it shows an admin cost of £53,5K and Directors expenses of £5.5k around £59,000.00.

Their letter states "will only represent recovery of DMQ’s AW administration and management costs" ... which equates to the figures above (circa £60K).
If these 'costs' are to be shared amongst the AW's (by way of registration fee and subscription) how many AW's are there ?

A thousand AW's = £60 each (per annum) + any rise in costs to administer the scheme (which doesn't exist at the moment) ... Anyone know how many AW's are on the register ?

At MS‘s figure of 700 AW‘s and Admin Costs approx £53.5k that works out at about £76.42 each!!!!!

Good luck to you that all I’m going to say, who in their right mind is going to pay that?

seen it myself a few times already Lee

not blinkered and not annoyed chap as I left the system already . I think though yours however may be a sheltered view..

But their income already exceeds costs, they generate a gross and net profit already.

Don't the statistics say it:

Only 21% of DMQ 1 move onto DCS2,they probably have to many AW, so this is perhaps a crude way of cutting done on the number.

Personally, as a volunteer asking me to pay to continue volunteering seems slightly perverse, if additional income is required shouldn't they charge the candidates more?

I must admit, I'm rather confused as to the requirement of all this admin for AW's? After all, they are little more than a long list of people who actually administer themselves. Once registered, they carry out their duties with no real input or guidance from their assessment centre or DMQ. Sure, a few will leave and more will join, but this has been historically managed by the assessment centres with little or no fuss (or fee!) and DMQ just add or remove the name to the list. There are maybe a few emails with updates, but no postage involved. There isn't even a requirement to post out AW lists or portfolios to candidates any more as it is all held online on the 'Onefile' site. It should also be noted that AW's have no log in, access or input to the onefile site, so no costs or AW admin there either. All they are required to do is fill out an electronic PDF Individual Cull Report (ICR) template which is then emailed directly to the assessor, so no admin required there either.
In fact, the only real Admin burden I can see from Aw's, is that which would be created by charging them a fee!!!!
