DNT Zulus V2 QUESTION

Your assertion piqued my interest - which I am afraid shows your “quick Google search” was obviously a bit too quick.
My more leisurely search shows that on 27th January 2025 sunrise in Belfast was at 08:21 which last time I went to school was a full 33 minutes after my Zulus video. Furthermore I distinctly recall being very impressed by the light gathering perhaps 15 minutes before I even thought of filming it.
Bottom line and not one to err, split “hares” I would be more than happy to have taken the shot as originally viewed but I don’t shoot hares.
Glad that’s sorted then….

I think Ian Blackwoods post sorted it but to underline what he says, half an hour before sunrise gives more than enough ambient light for the Zulus to work in night mode (it certainly wouldn’t work in colour mode) and at a push traditional glass too but nowhere near as well as the Alpex.

Read my original post, the Zulus won’t take you to last knockings, the Alpex takes you way beyond legal time, doesn’t matter how much you rate the Zulus its a fact.
Im sure i read that you haven’t looked through one like a few others on this thread, im sure you would see the difference if you did.

Ah well, at least you have learned that there is indeed a difference in first and last knockings times across the UK - regardless of which NV takes your fancy.
I suppose that’s something,,,,

Are you a HIK ambassador/agent/professional by any chance,l. Just saying as you seem to be totally obvious to the fact that other brands work too.

Nope, not at all, just someone who has learned by buying and using all of those scopes extensively, of course other brands work and as ive already said i use them too but some work better than others in the specific scenario the OP has asked about, makes no odds to me who uses what just trying to help anyone that hasn’t, including you lol.

I thought that the following may be of interest for those considering a scope for first/last knockings - these are screenshots from videos I took with the Zulus (V1) this am. Daylight was given rather optimistically as 06:48 on a dark, dank and occasionally raining morning. The distant hill on the last picture was just about discernible but little or nothing by way of colour was visible. As with all sights the quality of what you see through them is better than the video, screenshots are of course poorer again.
The chimney was 281 yards away - colour screen at 06:19 so just about half an hour before a very reluctant dawn…

Same chimney at 281 yards but in black and white mode without IR - at 06:20.

For interest - at 06:21 my local Golf Club on the hill above me (without IR) - just outside the Zulus’ LRF capability (which stopped at 1,256 yards) but Google Earth shows bang on 1,300 yards.

As will have been observed from earlier posts other scopes are of course available which offer finer colour clarity in poor light at additional cost/weight but I thought this post might be helpful and anyway it was raining…

There’s not enough of a difference north or south, at that time of the morning the light has already cracked and theres enough ambient light for the Zulus to work.
Regarding not using the Zulus correctly, just a lame comment when faced with a fact. Having ran 3 Zulus on rifles at the same time explain how they can all be used incorrectly? you turn them on and select day or night mode thats it, no contrast, aperture settings etc just brightness.
Problem with this thread is not a pi**ing competition its that some are rubbishing comments when they haven’t had the two scopes side by side and recon one is better than the other in low light.
I’ll do a comparison video when i get chance for everyone’s benefit.

Sunset N to S, maybe, sunset east to west today:- London 19.26hrs sunset 20mins earlier than Haverfordwest 19.46hrs.

Who gives a f*** when my DNT Zulus 5-20 v2 works in every type of light

Forgive me, if im correct you use your Zulus on an air rifle and im sure i read on Airgun Forum you haven’t looked through an Alpex?
Have you ever walked into a wood with full canopy and tried to shoot a deer with no IR in the last 10mins of legal light with your Zulus?

I use on sub12 , FAC air , 22lr , 17 HMR and 223 . Yes I looked through the alpex lite before buying another Zulus But it’s not for me . Like I said Zulus does everything I need it to do . I do shoot in woods in last light on squirrels but only at 40 yard max . Like I said it works for me

Wasn’t impressed with the Alpex Lite, Zulus is a better option like for like.

Just to update, thanks to everyone for their comments. I bought the Zulus 5-20 V2 through Blackwood Outdoors, excellent service and fast delivery. Fitted it to the T3 .260 with a Tier 1 rail and bore sited it. On the range it took five shots to get it zeroed, could have probably cut that by one but I over compensated adjustment on the fourth shot. Zeroed at 100 yards on X = 8 and Y = 78. I found it easy and intuitive to set up after spending a bit of time with the instruction booklet.
First morning out I shot a muntjac doe at 124 yards exactly 60 minutes before sunrise, I had been watching her through the thermal for a while hoping she wouldn’t walk into the cover. This was with the Zulus set in black and white with the ir torch set on auto, identification was clear on 10x mag and shot placement spot on. Colour picture good enough to shoot around thirty minutes before sunrise but it was a murky morning.
I’m delighted with the Zulus so far, it’s light, simple to use, battery life seems good and picture quality good. I have no problem with shooting in black and white mode until sufficient daylight for colour mode, the Zulus is a big step forward from the Pard NV 008 which I have on the .243. I’m looking forward to testing the ballistic calculator at longer distances.
