No! Make a circumferential cut around the mid section, take a side in each hand, and pull hard. Guts fall out. Cut off paws and head and detach the entrails. Done. Takes about a minute.

Huh. That's how I do rabbit, but it always seems to go wrong with squirrel, and I end up tearing strips off, rather than the whole lot. More practice clearly needed...
