Do you think this is fair?

Have you read the warranty details if it is a warranty that stated that stated it covered wear and tear.
Under the mercantble qualaty act of I think the mid 1970's it states that goods should be up to the use they were deigned for or you are entitled to your money back not a credit note

Whether Harkila or gore tex, the warranty is 2 years on the product, gore tex have a stay dry promise, no quibble so it really makes no difference.....

I assume you paid about £90, you had the boots 18 months before they leaked ?

I would say you got a good deal with a credit note for the full amount paid had they leaked within a few months i would expect a full refund from the shop you get what you pay for im afraid

What if they had only been worn 20 times in 18 months???

I sent a pair of Diotto's back to Hamish at Blackislader that were about that age and he replaced them by return of post...

Unfortunately, not all suppliers value repeat custom or delivering quality service.

Reminds me of woeful service from Decoying.co.uk who refused to refund me for a Roe sack that had fallen to pieces on its first use....their reason against a refund was that I had sent the Roe sack back and it still had some blood on it!

Their price really is irrelevant, however, they were down from £180 to £100 if I recall, so irespective of paid price they ought to be a decent boot,

Price is not irrelevant, the following is an extract from The Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982:

2A)For the purposes of this section and section 5 below, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.

You had a budget and money put aside, you spent that money on a pair of boots. They failed and everyone agreed they failed. They were not able to replace the boots as they were a discontinued line. You now need to use that money you had budgeted to buy a new pair of boots, at the price you had budgeted. The company does not have anything in at that price range, so why should you either a) have to spend more money than you can afford on a pair of boots? or b) buy some clothing or other item just to use your voucher up when you cannot afford to buy a luxury such as new clothing. What you need after all is a pair of boots. Who are they to reassign your money to an item you do not need?

Come on, sort it out Scott Country. It's very very bad customer service.

According to Harkila, the warranty on footwear is 2 years, their 5 year warranty only applies to "the outer fabric and stitching" on their trousers/Jacket, and apparently, it is only on the prohunter range, not across the board. It was news to me, but that came direct from the Harkila rep.
