Doctor wants me to attend a 'medical appointment' before completing police report form for renewal

Reading this thread really shakens me. My heart is bleeding for you British guys...
Its not so bad really , i mentioned the chance of ten year tickets to my FEO and they thought a big fat NO! to the idea . The point was valid and it was some clients have issues they need to "keep a close eye on" and five was honestly a real challenge to them as it was!
So we are therefore doing more work to all to manage a few .
Now in my mid fifties with like near 40 years in , i am sure it would not be too big an issue to have a longer licence and perhaps another could be even shorter than now ( off setting costs and time equal ) ?
If you look at shootings with legal held firearms in the UK its tiny . If you then remove suicides by gun it shrinks far more again . IMHO though , some make it seem more Onerous than it is here in the UK .
I mention suicide by gun as its pretty high in the area around me , considering the population is so low - Hill farming etc is tough and it can bring a man down

I guess I'm shaken, because I dont know anything about your British gun violence statistics. Here in Norway we practically dont have any gun violence. I haven't checked the 2023 statistics yet, but in 2022 we had a total of 28 murders, and with all our guns and gun owners, firearms were used in only 3 of this. And one of this gun killings was actually a double homicide, so we had in reality only 2 episodes with gun violence. On was a hate crime towards guy people were an illegal old submachine gun was used, and in the other killing an illegal gun was also used in a gang shooting. So now gun laws or psychiatric screening could have prevented this killings.
Suicide is an illegal shooting in our stats . If you haven't got this figure included as gun violence then its not comparable. I would guess its far more common in in Norway if it is not being put in the same pot as here .

This made curious . I had no clue how many suicides we have here at our side of the North Sea, and it turnes out we have a few. Several hundred annually. So even if we dont kill each other much, we are quite brutal against ourselves. And men were in overwhelming majority. But there were interesting aspects in this report. It turnes out that many more women than men attempt suicide, but still more men die by suicide. Because men are more competent and also more brutal. And they use brutal methods that work nearly every time. They use firearms, hang them selves , drive their car to seclude spot and convert the car to a gas chamber or drive their car at high speed into an obstacle. With nearly 100 success rate in every case. While women use pills or slash their wrists , methods that have much lower success rate. Men are more industrious and determent than women. If they dont have access to fire arms, they know what to do anyway. I dont think denying a man who is determent to end his life a gun, will save his life .
