Doctors and Renewal

I submitted my renewal and forwarded the proforma document and an email to my gp ,I had already talked to the surgery on the phone.
That was on April 5th , Friday I get an email saying they have being trying to call me and do I still require this service. I had received 2 recent missed calls with no message left. I had called the feo and he confirmed it was not them and I rang the surgery they said nothing was outstanding to be fair I had just had some tests and the info for renewal was not at the front of my mind.Today I have spoken the the nice lady who has taken over the role and she has passed it to the Dr today, and it may take 2 more weeks and cost £78 and I have to go to the surgery and sign the form.
I have left a message for the feo. Next time I am using a separate service.

Change your Dr. Thursday afternoon I drop the forms off, the following Tuesday morning a get a text wanting confirmation I'm happy with the £50 fee. I collect the sameday.

I enquired as to my drs price for this service & got a reply of £120 o_O I told them that on cambs renewal page online, they recommend medcert at a cost of £60 & could they try to match it ? I got a firm no & told that was their final price. Looks like medcert it is then.

My GP was the same. £30 for some mundane thing which is the same work - but not for guns. For firearm - £120. Told them to do one and they had to print out 30 years of medical notes for me to sent to shootcert. They are legally obliged to do this for you for free within (I think) 30 days. Some medical practices are a bit more on the ball and can give you the data digitcally (which shootcert will gladly accept too).

Update
I have an email from Licencing today asking me to push the gp, I am off to pay this afternoon and sign form, and emailed the saga to Licensing.

Madness isn`t it. I know they will not have to go through my notes now, but if they at least got near or equal to medcert price they would have got some money out of me. Now they are going to have to print/send my details for free., not sure how that is good business. Also just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue as me. Basically since I last had need to see the doctor he retired, so who should I now put on the form for medcert as my doctor ? Do I just pick a random name off the list at the doctors surgery ?

I don't think it is a business issue. It is either an ethical (in their mind), or they just don't want the responsibility/perceived liablity. A bit like the builder who quotes silly money for a job because he doesn't want it.

Like I said earlier, I waited 37 days and no response, that was over a month I’d lost, I was looking at the medcert way to go but they said the GP can hold onto them for 28 days before releasing my notes, then that’s another month lost, didn’t want to end up placing firearms in storage if there’s a back log of processing certs😬

I ended up paying something like £80 but once they have the cash you are wel with it your rights to be calling and email g several times a day. This sorted it quite quickly

That’s what I did,I asked them to have my fee and pro forma ready for collection as I’m going private, an hour later I had a tx saying your form is ready for collection at your convenience 👍🏻
