Being Canadian this doesn’t apply to me but I’m curious as to what the medical certificate is for?
Is your Doc declaring you physically or mentally fit (or both) to own firearms and do they perform an examination to determine your physical or mental fitness?
No, they're not certifying you fit to have firearms.
What they are certifying is that you don't have any medical conditions that may affect your suitability to have firearms.
The overall decision of suitability lies with the police.

Might be useful to have a read through the application form (201), as this will give you a better understanding of the topics we cover regularly, the Doctors' ProForma is covered in pages 23-28

I read the application form that fixedwheel posted. Very interesting process.
A bit overboard maybe. Certainly a good idea to asses people’s mental health at the start. Not sure it needs repeating unless there’s an issue and hopefully the person’s partner/friends would intervene in that case. Seems like the MD is cashing in on the deal.
