Dog box alternatives

I’m looking for a secure, robust crate for my wife... sorry, my wife’s car, to put our spaniel in.
I have a trans k9 in my pickup which is great but probably a bit on the heavy/bulky side of things for the car.
I’ve tried Lintran before and didn’t feel the quality justified the price tag, Cab boxes look smart, albeit not the most ventilating?
can anyone make any other suggestions? I’ve seen DT boxes online, Irish company, look smart and light weight, looking for opinions and advice, don’t want a rattly cage type thing, wants to be solid and safe and contain most of the muck when the dogs wet and muddy.
vehicle is a VW Touareg. Also only want to fill half the boot so it’s still usable
Cheers

Check out the Trans K9 website as they have cages that take up half the boot space. They currently show several space saver cages. I have a B23ss and comfortably use it for 2 ESS.

Look up Kennel Bank dog boxes on ebay. Powder coated aluminium in various sizes and a fair bit cheaper than a lot of the big names.

I haven't seen on in the flesh and no connection to the company.

If you can find one a second hand Port a Pet made by Merlin products are excellent (No longer made)

Forty five gallon plastic barrel stood up and cut at a slant, about 20-24 inches tall at the back down to 4-6 inches at the front. Blanket or old towel for comfort and your good to go. :tiphat:

Just saying, dog/luggage grill is cheap and easy and leaves the boot open to actual usage. Why a cage in a cage? Is it a f*cking Russian doll car?

ok, so when I want to leave the boot open, on a hot day and know that no one is going to steal my dog, then what? Or when the dogs mucky after a days work, then what? Or when the brakes go on and the dog has the whole of the boot to fly through before hitting the dog guard? Or when I need to get the spare tyre out on the hard shoulder of the motorway and want to open the boot without the risk of the dog ending up in traffic? Seriously, I asked a really simple question about good crates for dogs.... it’s not that difficult is it?

Dog crates are usually not locked or bolted into the car, so anyone could steal your dog, they’d just take the crate with it.

Crates take up most of the boot, you’d never get a spare tyre out under one of its an under-compartment type

Why do people assume they’re going to crash?

If the dog is mucky, isn’t that why they’re in the boot?

Just saying...

I have had a folding dog crate I bought off Facebook of all places. It lives behind my seat in the pickup. I have two spaniels who share it it takes up half the back seat and has end and side doors. Folds down flat I added a sheet of 6mm plastic board to the base. The stuff they use for display stands (where it was salvaged from). It helps stop muck getting out.
possibly not the most secure dog box but it has lasted me quite a few years and is still used regularly. The construction is cordura over a tubular steel frame. The top rails are sprung and pull apart to fold.

I have a DT half box for my cocker, no rattles and easily cleaned and light enough to lift out if you need the boot space for other activities..

Thank you, good to hear as I’m leaning their way, my only concern is how light they are and anchoring them down so they don’t move about?

For leaving the boot open for ventilation on a hot day I have used these for years and they are really handy, simple but effective.

They are usually also available on eBay.
