Dog Tracking Device

I am looking to get a tracking device for the dog. She gets on the scent and she's off (beagle ) I have been looking at the Garmin Alpha anyone used or using one and are they worth the money. Appreciate your recommendations.

Plenty of posts on here about the Garmin's if you search. Here's one of mine:

If it's a Garmin make sure both the hand set and the collar are suitable for the uk. As the American and European ones can if updated lock you out . I think the hand sets and collars are now sold separately instead of a complete kit.
Peter Cheeseman sells them

Would an air tag or tiles work if she wears a collar you could attach to? Need phone/mobile data though obviously

There are plenty off tracking devices/collars out there, the problem with all of them is they rely on a mobile signal, unlike Garmin and Dogtra which use a radio signal , pretty much everywhere i shoot has no or very limited mobile signal. Ive been looking into this myself

Dogtra pathfinder

I’ve just fitted 2 to my Teckels and tested them this week

Bloody marvellous. Offline maps so works with no phone signal and is easy to set up. I have the mini which tracks up to 5 miles or so but probably further condition dependent

Second dogtra collar. Wouldn’t look elsewhere now .

If phone signal is not a problem, then the Tractive device is an excellent and affordable option. Very accurate live mapping on your phone (an app).
For areas without signal, Dogtra Pathfinder2 is a great product, or if your budget allows then go for the Garmin

I e used the Garmin Alpha for the last 3 years and it’s a fantastic piece of kit. Wouldn’t hesitate to purchase another if this one failed. Look for Frank Bryne for the best prices in the UK.

Does anyone think the Garmin is worth a premium over the dogtra, cause reading the above thread, the mapping on the dogtra is way better.
I’m bloody impressed with mine, plus it has the other functions of being a training collar as well.

Use the Garmin Alpha 200i on my GWP - very happy with it- maps have recently been updated too- this was just a free run around a local farm recently.

Better ( much better in fact )but the dogtra mapping still looks better.
I not seen the dogtra mapping to see- the screen shot I put up was probably not the best as she had run the same areas over a few times. Do you have to use your phone at all with dogtra ? To see map etc ?

You do,
I think that’s what makes the mapping better.
Maps are downloaded so work offline with no phone signal.
Garmin is a handheld device with maps yes ?

Yeah, map is on the hand held device, handy when raining as screen is not affected by water. Can also view on phone and I believe garmin watches will show you dog directions too.
