Dorset firearms licensing , had to write to MP

My understanding is that you only sign something when you have read it and agreed with it. If you don't agree with it then return it and get what you want. If you sign it they don't have to change anything as you have agreed to it by signing it.
I agree sign if you are ok with terms of a contract
problem is law says sign on receipt not sign if you agree
anyone have any case law

swot i was told by i assume Julie as far as I know they are police officers so can be used as such for normal duties they aren't a large dept and for years I've heard nothing but good things about them thru the shooting club i used to be part of and is a large one with a diverse range of shooting so they deal with a lot of odd requests etc

I also know from my mate in Hants Police that Dorset Force are basically bankrupt with little or no cash about to waste which is why he never wanted a transfer

So currently I'm willing to accept that they have a problem thats not their making or fault with little they can do so I will wait to put in my Application and try not make the problem worse
And hopefully let them try and get the renewals sorted as they are important to do quickly as this thread shows

ATB

Duncan

We do pay for the service Duncan! If our money isn't stretching far then perhaps they need to look at streamlining their operation. They could always follow West Mercia's example.

At the moment I am doing nothing. I am fed up wasting my time speaking to them. I have phoned them, I have phoned the FEO, I have written to my MP, my friend (who owns the deer park) has phoned them, he has also phoned the FEO.
If they want they can come and take my guns as I don't have a license. And then I'll sue their asses off. I have tried every avenue and when I fnally get my license I will be making a complaint to the polce complaints commission.

Woah teyhan!!
That is not the attitude, and a really stupid statement saying let them take my guns and i will sue them!
You are in possession of firearms without a current FAC you are committing an offence and the police have every right to sieze your firearms.
As for suing them, what for? you are having a laugh mate.
To protect yourself from prosecution get your firearms lodged with a RFD and then go to town with the complaints commission.

Ian.

Well I got naffed off at work so shut the door and came home. And guess what
NO LICENSE
I have taken every precaution to try and ensure that I had my license on time.
1. Entered 7 weeks prior to renewal
2. Got a 1 month section 7 permit when it didn't arrive
3. Spoken to FEO and Headquarters at length on a number of occasions
4. Written to MP
Let them take me to court. I have been reasonable and patient. If the judicial side with them then there's no hope and I'm outta here.

The judiciary is like the dentist or the emergency plumber: if you need their services, you're already in trouble and about to become bankrupt too.

Best to lodge the firearms with an RFD and use the correct complaint procedures, otherwise it is you who will be in trouble, not them. atb Tim

ps. In the past I have found ringing firearms dept at the HO moved things on.

If you received your renewed license as it sounds like and just sent it back to have it corrected then there is no issue. You may not have the piece of paper but you do have a valid cert so no issues with keeping the guns at all.

hi al4x1
he did not sign fac so is it valid ? I do not know the answer

Well its been renewed and issued so I would suggest it is valid. It is a responsibility to sign it once you receive it but that has little relevance especially if sent back, the important bit is the computer will show you with a valid cert.

On a side one Herts renewed a mate of mines recently he now has it a month before his last one runs out with a new right to acquire on real shame we're assuming he needs to wait till the date on it to go ahead and buy the rifle.

After I posted this afternoon, I felt a little better. Having hacked a chunk out of my finger dealing with someones crappy chinese generator and having the worry of my firearms I felt really rubbish and dispondant. Anyway boyed up by some of the comments I decided to phone the police whilst waiting for my kids to exit school. I couldn't or wasn't allowed to speak to Julie Walsh and was told that my firearms cert was received today and was processed and is in the 1st class post. I went very quiet. I really wanted to shout at them. I wanted to tell them that I thought that they were liars.
If you have read all of the posts you will recall that LAST Tuesday I was told by Julie Walsh that it was not worth me bringing down my license to them and that it was faster to use the post office. I sent my cert that day guaranteed for next day delivery and it was confirmed delivered to Headquarters the next day. I have checked. So they had it on the Wednesday. Does it really take 3 1/2 days to get from HQ to Firearms Dept? OR Does it really take 3 1/2 days for them to open the post? OR is something rather more fishy going on? I'm waiting to see if it really does arrive in the post tomorrow, after all it is 1st class. OR Is it going to take 3 1/2 days to get back to HQ to then be posted back to me?
What really gets to me is not that there are delays. I run a business and I know how things can get behind. What I don't like is being lied to or feeling that I'm being lied to. And by civil service, a service that I pay for through taxes and licensing. I even made a mistake of over paying for my co-terminous certificate and I wouldn't have minded if they'd kept it, I think the license is cheap!!
Maybe it's just the feeling of helplessness that your totally in someone elses hands, and subject to their whims. And there is nothing you can do about it. I've had an open license for the best part of 20 years, WHY THE AGRO NOW?
A question for anyone in the know. Am I allowed to see my firearms file under the Data Protection Act or The freedom of Information Act? I'm wondering if there is anything in there.
GOD I HOPE IT COMES BACK RIGHT, I'll let you all know

Well my license has finally arrived. It has all the correct rifles on it and rifles to be aquired too!! Miracles do happen.
Although I feel it may be returning soon.
I did request an increase in ammo held allowance given that I re-load. I even wrote it on the license I sent back, IN BIG LETTERS. It has obviously gone unheeded.
I have now signed it.
What I fail to understand is the logic of Deer, Fox condition. I argued this successfully at my last variation saying that if out with my rifle and I spot a Mink what am I supposed to do? Strictly speaking I couldn't shoot it. Perhaps if I ask it nicely it will stay there whilst I go home and fetch either the shotgun or .22 rimfire

someone i know had 'fox while deerstalking' to which he said when 'when deerstalking i am deerstalking when it is dark i hunt fox'
the reply from feo was 'yes that is fine'

had to point out unlawful condition
