Double Rifle versus Blaser R93 for Speed?

A double will always outshoot a magazine rifle over a number of shots. Ok if you have a 20 shots ready loaded then perhaps not, but in most sporting rifles and shotguns that is the case. If you really want fire power then a pair of doubles and a good loader is what is required.

Good on them. Rifles are for shooting.

Er, yes, that they are. Lever guns, ARs and some semi-autos hunting rifles are designed for silly games like that. Not something I’d be remotely interested in doing with a Blaser double or any regular sporting contour bolt rifle. But thats just me.

I don't understand what the problem is with using your guns, I regularly practice with my rifles, 5 0r six quick shots, reload and same again.
I can understand someone not wanting to put a mod through that, but the gun?

Using your guns? No problem with that mate! It’s how you use regular bolt action rifles, that’s what I’m questioning from the video. One of the “principles & rules” me and many (most?) shooters are taught is that long shot strings and insufficent cooling of sporting contour rifle barrels can (will?) cause throat erosion and accelerated wear. Yes barrels are just a consumable, and no shooter should not shoot because he’s worried about wearing out his barrel. But surely he should consider whether he’s screwing up a perfectly good rifle with years and years of service life ahead of it by playing silly buggers?

Anyway, its one of those debates that could go round in circles with no end, because how much is too much, which cartridges, the loads, the barrel contour, etc. God knows I don’t wanna encourage the Blaser owners to get overexcited about whether or not their rifles can handle it.

The 22mm barrel on the 416 isn't sporting contour, its a safari contour. The double spreads the heat load between two. There is method in the madness lol!

I only use sporter profile barrels in Bolt action.
I practice shooting 10 or 12 shots as fast as I can load for a reason, I don't want to miss the drive of my life because I cannot shoot quick, or stalk into a bunch of hinds and not maximise the stalk, why shoot one when 5 is better.
I use hot loads in the 243, normal loads in other guns and I'm yet to get a problem with throat erosion, its now getting to the point where I'm thinking that there is no such thing caused by shooting! it must be a cleaning issue or something else.
I have a cheep 243, bought for pest control and expected to replaces it when the barrel wore out one way or another, 30 years and many thousands of rounds and its as good as the day I bought it.
So Ill keep practicing because as I get older my reactions slow down anyway, so I need it.

Maybe the hot barrel wear thing is a myth... Heckler & Koch studied why their target army issue rifles lost accuracy quicker than those used on full auto mostly. Fire cracking is the biggest wear factor. Hot steel has less fire cracking was roughly their conclusion.

Who is to say that playing
“Silly beggars” is not the type of shooting that the person who owns rifle does?
What’s silly beggars to you is another’s bread and butter ?
Hind culling ?
You don’t want group of 4 or 5 Hinds to get away because your too slow or worried about a consumable !

Or in a safari case ..... as said above why shoot so hot and fast ?
Bloody dangerous game 25 yards out and still coming? Your not going to be worried about throat erosion then?

Maybe your own throat !

Don’t knock it just because it’s not your thing

All some folk do is shoot their rifles and take years of service and still get same service but use it more quickly .
Then rebarrel it and continue to enjoy !
Who’s getting out and shooting more?

Shoot it like you stole it 😂😂

I did my years over foxhounds when both they and semi -autos were legal for hunting Sambar Deer. I never had an auto rifle although the majority of the hound team blokes had Rem Woodmasters, B/Bar`s or H+K`s
They had fantastic follow up shot possibility`s of course BUT..there is a BUT and that was many(not all) had that in their mind that they had 4-5 or 10 (H+K) crackers underneath and shot accordingly.Which was at times pitiful lol.
In the hands of the righthunter the autos are in their own league for that group of 4 or 5 hinds etc.

I didn't mind following a fox uphill with a 15 shot mag in a .22 mag H+K I have to add.
