Drag kit.

Its just 2m of webbing, with the buckle of my Fathers service dress belt sewn on one end, and when I'm hunting I just wear it as a belt. When the deer hits the deck I take it off and get to work. It only needs to be about 1300 long, but I've made it long enough to go around me twice, just for convenience.

More photos for illustration. The running shoes in the first photo weere for crossing the river in the background, and I left them on for climbing the hill back to the camp.

What's the rifle in the first photo?

I take a small bearded fellow, as long as I feed him beer and peanuts he drags deer out very efficiently 😆😆

What's the rifle in the first photo?
It's a Merkel drilling. 12x12 over a 7x65R. I got it for chukar hunting when Chamois or Thar are around, but mostly pheasant hunting when I run into deer or pigs. It's a little heavy, but better than carrying a rifle and a shotgun.

It shoots slugs to POA at 50m, so I had the right barrel loaded with buckshot, the left with a slug and a 156 grain load in the rifle. I've never shot any large animals with the shotgun barrels yet, although I did shoot a very surprised red hind at 7m one day with a load of #6 out of a different gun, and a reasonably sized sow and 3 piglets with my 16 gauge BPS full of #5 at contact distance as they came out of a patch of gorse.

Been using this seatbelt material single loop, with an orange climbing safety strap and a heavy duty carabina for ages. Its strong enough to drag reds with the quad if required, I like the orange as if I need to leave beasts on the hill it’s a great marker.91bbd474-2abd-4fd8-9fec-de42e2b63789.webp

We shoot and have to drag out some large Reds where I stalk in Devon 3/4 times a year. The ground is really tough in parts to the extent where I turned my nose up at a couple of good Hinds earlier this year, because getting them out would have been emotional (in all seriousness an injury risk). For an off the shelf purchase the Deerhunter drag kit works well and isn’t too heavy. I think I got mine from SGC for £10-15. If I knew I was after larger deer away from tracks etc. it’s perfectly portable.

What does your strap look like out of use?

By which I mean is it set up in loops or is it literally just a strap?

It looks like a very simple, effective technique but I’m struggling to picture how you set the strap up.
looks very similar to the set up in the video I posted earlier on a similar thread with the Kiwi and his leather belt. It shows the cuts clearly. looks like a good technique

nooooo
Nothing so exotic mate harness rope and a rolled thick nylon plastic sheet - unroll insert deer lace up harness on drag out
I used it quite a bit last season
It’s handy to keep in the motor just in casey. I’ll see if I can find the harness etc and a picture I think it came from bushwear or a similar company

I love this but can’t imagine how many ticks would be crawling all over me afterwards.

Aha.

Getting old. Hilly heavily forested ground. Draging Sika PITA. Carrying Sika also PITA.

Mean git.

Big trays no use as you have to lug them about.

Forget quad, too mean.

Barrows are useless on the ground.

Can't be something I go back to in the car, then back up the hill.

Capstan too £££ too many kg.

Dont fancy some of these drag systems ££ and/or some reviews show them splitting on the first day out

So...

Heavy duty deer drag plastic thing. Rolls up. £9 on Amazon. So if it only does a few trips who cares. Works very well. Game changes and <£10. I think they were for ice fishing originally.

Plus

Cheap Petz Pulley £15
50m of paracord, comes with karabiners.

So I can tie it up in the drag, haul it along without any friction. Downhill is safer as well. Then when I get to the inevitable steep section pop the pulley on loop the paracord through. Walk up the hill, one one end clips round a tree, pull the other end and its half the weight.

Cheap, compact, light.
I tried searching on Amazon for 'heavy duty deer drag plastic thing' that was £9 without success.
Perhaps you could supply a link like this: Amazon.co.uk : computers for dummies

i remember seeing a carryable tarpaulin type thing on here you rolled deer into, folded up and clipped closed...cant remember if was back pak clips or bungeed ...then drag rope on it and away you go beast is "isolated" after gralloch from the debris of a drag

bu55ered if i can remeber where i saw it or who made it
