EN with regards to steel grades like EN8 stands for European Standard.
Hardox I think is a trade name for EN24 hardened to the T state.

EN is Emergency Number from during ww2
So from free machining steel EN1a to the good stuff like you said 24t

Mostly UK steel is via Chinese manufacture . TBF the story is likewise through the EU ! Remember that if we need to go to war ! The steel we do process here is owned by companies outside of the UK but in Europe.
The Knife steels i use mainly is SF stainless Smelted and flat rolled in Sheffield and Rotherham , after that its AEB-L stainless which comes in via Germany but is actually made in the USA in massive coils its the same basic composition but the coil .
We still i believe have the facilities but they have been basically mothballed i am told things like hollow section is being sold in the flat and sent abroad because we cannot sell it in our home market against the Chinese fully finished sections we are forced to buy from stockholders , how true is it that things can be re-sorted ? Dont know , though re-recruiting guys of experience has to be an issue surely by now?
Just thought it was worth mentioning , with all the news of possible another possible War with Russia and China .
Many would never know that almost all UK scrap metals are sold to the Chinese , even though the senders often don't end up getting paid or paid in full
We might joke of China as junk makers - but we cannot be without its supply ! In the 80s when i started i cannot remember handling any steel Quality issues of note , now its all too common . I can only remember one steel failure issue through the 80s into maybe the early 90s

And you will find Hardox targets are 450>500 which you won't drill unless you spot face with oxy/acyl
This "shins" on the legs are AR 450 the leg is EN 8

You can drill hardox 500, I do quite often.
Mag drill and tungsten carbide rotabroach cutter.
yes I have used them but the people I sub to prefer to spot heat as it might be a number of lads using the 5 ton radial drill
which is a bit fierce compared to the mag drill.
