Drone pro x10

Is it really so much better then a T50 with Black Sun 2 IR to be worth the bother of the extra purchase of the lens and a T38 to butcher?

Ian.

No need to 'butcher' a T20 (cutting the bezel back to the threads) or a T38 (Possibly needing to ease the threads out a bit) ......... just buy an AS IR led TR38 torch from skany at Ludicrous Lumens and your 3x42 (or for more poke but less wieldy a 4x50) Ranger lens from Microglobe and its straight swap.

I got the best from mine by just turning, filing, cutting tor grinding the knurled section of the pill back to the torch body as I found the movable rear lens of the Ranger would change the mode when it contacted it (a single mode torch wouldn't suffer from this).

They are awesome..... my original T20 S'Ranger upgraded to an AS led when they first came out, throws the focused die of the LED onto trees at a pinged 650m..... this was viewed through an Xtreme with a 105mm Pentax Takumar lens on the front and a mk1 DronePro. We were watching a hare and muntjac feeding at 450m and got eyeshade from an owl in the oak 40m behind them... which we then saw fly out and land on something in the grass.

For the last few months I've been using an AS'd NM800 with a photographic 850 IR pass filter on the front... with a fresh battery this will easily get out to 300m... and it's lighter than the S'Ranger.......... so if you're getting decent distance on your Black sun T50 it would only be a suck it and see on the S'Ranger.... the SR scores as it concentrates to a tighter focus and you'll get less glare on the mod too.

The best place to mount any torch is as far back as possible in order to put the moderator in the shadow of the front lens of the DP. Mine is on the RH side rail on a QR 45degree pic accessory rail which position the torch top right of the housing so I can still reach it with my left hand.

If you go on the nightvisionforum and speak to a chap on there called dave warlock he seems to have a great deal of knowlege on this subject. I ended up with a T74 from irlightbuilds which is very good. Its worth baring in mind that the newer drones come with a much improved ir. I would try that first,

Sunranger is a massive improvement on the new armasight IR

The illuminator that now comes with the Drone pro is fitted with the Oslon AS LED and that is a significant improvement over the earlier version which was fitted with the oslon S LED.
The limitation for the Armasight illuminator is the size of the aspheric lens it uses.
If you want long range from an LED illuminator you either increase the diameter of the aspheric lens - 74mm seems to be the current practical maximum or you use a compound lens system as used in the sunnranger.
My preference is for a sunnranger using a Yukon 4x50 lens.
It's significantly less weighty and bulky than a T74 and there's more than enough performance to see targets at ranges far further than you could safely shoot.

Hi guys I use a tr50 with AS led from ludicrous lumens on my drone pro 10x which is good but waiting on a t74 from irlightbuilds which apparently wakes the drone right up. Problem is it might be a bit tricky shooting from the truck

Have to agree, not on a drone pro but I use it on an Archer and it enables me to id Fox's out to well over 400yds.
That's using a Sightron 8-32×56 if only I had the ability to range find at night :)

I did try it with a mates drone pro and it bleached it out. But I suppose you could filter that.

In my opinion the Dragonfly laser easily throws the furthest beam but it is nothing like as clean as the big lensed AS powered LEDs, so for me the best compromise is a big LED, as you get wind it right out for a decent picture at long distance but wind the lens in for closer stuff and still get a really clear picture over the whole screen of a 10x Drone Pro.

i used the sunnranger because it's small and compact with a great focal adjustment, the last thing i need is anything bigger,

i have used a few a few items on my first drone, but from the truck/thruck bonnet, the 4x50 sunnranger wins hands down for me,

I don't like the lasers, you have to remove the eyesafe filter to get the full potential . I have a big problem with forgetting to turn my ir off sometimes so a bit risky for my liking
i have also tried both drones and the 15 is great for those longer shots but sometimes awkward finding a fox under 50 yards

K
anybody have any experience with the dragonfly IR from starlight?

Have to smile, sorry, you no doubt have it mounted on a rifle.

Yes you can remove the filter but I found it white washed too much, it was far too bright.

been looking at the drone pro x10 for myself, could any tell me how good they are and what ranges you are seeing/shooting at with it , was looking at the cobra blade front add on but no one has said anything good about them

Drone pro
Is probably the most bought & liked digital NV scope ..... also customer service from Carl Moore of nightvisiongear is excellent .
In my humble opinion going on what's said here, & on the nightvision uk forum
Drone pro is currently cream of the crop for dedicated digital.
I can see & ID quarry with mine & a T74 illumination to a known 400yards & more .... certainly more than would shoot

Stay away from front add-ons - they're nothing but a pain in the t*ts
Sauer is right, the Drone pro is far and away the best digital NV scope available at the moment and Carl Moore's service and back up is legendary in the NV community.
The illuminator that comes with the drone is good for at least 200 yard shots and there are plenty of more powerful illuminators available such as the T74 and Sunnranger that will get you a lot further.
Get one, you won't be disappointed

Adding to the above post it seems the price has gone up £51 and no illuminator is included. No hardship don't buy the armasight IR. Get the parts in and make a sunranger. Cheaper and much better performance

I've been running a Drone prox10 on a .22/250 since they first arrived over here, superb bit of kit but as said the illumination is key.

I use an older type T67 (25mm body) from ludicrous lumes with the AS IR led fitted and will happily shoot out to 300y+ if required and conditions allow, recognition of fox out to double this depending on conditions.

I also sent the included armasight ir down to ludicrous lumes and had a AS IR led fitted for £10-15 which really transformed the unit cheaply, although it now sits in the glove box as a spare, also prefer the tail switch on the armasight ir than on any other unit I've tried.

All my foxing is done on foot so weight matters to me but if you are shooting from a truck the light thrown out from a 240blitz/170striker with ir filter is impressive and very clean.

I have also done this and its great to cover large areas in a short time.

I would also ,like to try the conversion to the DP ir unit, small and compact is where I want to be that's why I built my drone battery pack into the stock of my rifle. longer run time and no bulky battery

hanging off the scope.
