DSC 2 options

Why has it been dropped from 3 Cull records to 1. Where they finding 3 was in effect very repetitive and didn’t really add any value. Ie a good AW can pretty much assess whether or not a candidate is competent or not in just one ICR.

Or is it simply a matter of time and cost? And will it diminish the value of a DSC2 so you now need a DSC3, 4 or 5.

Or a bit like O levels yse to really mean something, then A levels were the basic, and fast forward to today unless you have three PhDs and a raft of professional qualifications you are considered to be unskilled labour.

This was debated at length here: DMQ level 1 and 2 changes

My personal view is that the shift from 3 ICR’s to 1 was done for eminently practical reasons. A lot of Candidates found DSC2 to be very expensive.

Keep in mind that DSC2 is “a practical based qualification which enables candidates to demonstrate their knowledge and competence in legally, safely and humanely culling deer and dealing with carcasses hygienically.”

If a Candidate can successfully meet those criteria when completing 1 ICR, what is the benefit in having to do it 3 times? We don’t sit the driving test 3 times, or have to provide 3 good reasons when adding a new rifle to our FAC’s. So what was it that made 3 ICR’s the right number and 1 (or 2, or 7, etc) wrong?

From personal experience I would say that, if anything, the new format of 1 ICR puts more pressure on both the Candidate and the AW, as effectively there is now only 1 chance for the Candidate to successfully complete all the Performance Criteria, from identification through to the lardering and maintaining the records.
